1107 came to the law firm to pick me up after work.
I had switched firms after He Zhi died, making this the third one of my career. Initially, no one knew about my past, but because He Zhi and I had an account with over a million followers on social media, the fact that I had a deceased wife soon spread throughout the office.
When my colleagues saw 1107 waiting for me at the entrance of the law firm, they couldn’t help but steal a few extra glances.
They must have quietly searched for that account in private and seen what He Zhi looked like; that was the only reason they would look so surprised upon seeing 1107.
1107 walked toward me from across the street, took my hand, and said, “Let’s go home.”
I wasn’t used to the warmth of her palm.
The people around us cast curious, searching looks our way.
I didn’t shy away, allowing her to lead me forward.
1107 glanced back and huffed, “They’re so annoying. What are they looking at?”
I quietly slipped my hand out of hers.
She pressed closer again and blinked at me. “Let’s walk a little faster, and a little further.”
The traffic light changed, and behind us, the flow of traffic was endless, with horns blaring one after another at the intersection.
Amidst the noise, I remembered that He Zhi had said those exact words before.
