Chapter 9
Chapter 9
He is the user behind the ID Good Person Peaceful Life.
I’ve already hacked into the Shouyi Funeral Home’s database and reviewed his records.
His name is An Cong. He is actually fifty-one years old this year.
This fits the age profile of the killer.
In contrast, the user Chasing Light is only thirty-two, and ten years ago, he was still living abroad.
The information I gathered shows that An Cong spent a period of time drifting between various song and dance troupes and circuses.
A job like that involves a lot of traveling, which aligns with the killer’s pattern of choosing random cities to commit his crimes.
He is unmarried and has no children. As he got older, he came to Shouyi Funeral Home to apply for a job as a cremator.
This funeral home is state-owned, but it has declined in recent years. They don’t handle much business, mostly dealing with the bodies of homeless people, executed prisoners, and other special cases.
He simultaneously held three positions: cremator, body porter, and security guard.
That’s likely why his supervisor spoke up for him earlier.
In everyone’s eyes, An Cong is a somewhat narcissistic but hardworking and honest man.
Night falls.
Looking out, there are only a few scattered lights within my field of vision. It’s clear how badly this area has decayed.
This is indeed an excellent location to commit a crime silently.
It is perfectly reasonable for the police to focus their attention on him.
I open the Inference Bar.
Sure enough, I see Chasing Light acting up again.
He even wrote a long analytical post.
[The police went to the funeral home today to make an arrest.]
According to his theory, if the killer were someone from the funeral home, but didn’t use their position to burn the victim’s body along with the homeless…
[Instead choosing such a high-level body disposal method, I can only say he’s got guts and skill. Impressive.]
Here he goes again. Analyzing a case is one thing, but what the hell is with this glorification of the criminal?
ID Town Conan: [A psycho is a psycho. What’s so ‘impressive’ about it…]
ID Urologist: [This poster is definitely a bit sick in the head.]
ID Big Orange Matters: [I thought his previous analyses were okay, but today’s is just pure dogshit.]
After a moment’s thought, I open a private message to Chasing Light.
Then, I sent him a photo-of himself.
ID Chasing Light: [What do you mean by this?]
ID Chasing Light: [Do you have any idea who you’re messing with?]
Heh, what a familiar tone.
I didn’t answer. Instead, I started posting his personal details.
ID Profiler: [Dong Ming, male, 32 years old.]
ID Chasing Light: [Who the hell are you?]
ID Profiler: [Surgeon at X Hospital.]
ID Chasing Light: [So you can look up personal info? Big deal. Even scammers can do that.]
ID Profiler: [Married. Wife: Chen Xiang. One daughter.]
This time, he remained silent for a while before speaking up again.
ID Chasing Light: [What do you want?]
ID Profiler: [Happy family, loving marriage, no external stressors, no record of mental illness.]
ID Chasing Light: [If you dare touch my family, killing you would be easier than crushing an ant.]
I smiled.
What? When he was worshiping a murderer, harassing Jiang Ning anonymously online, and indulging his inner beast, did he ever stop to think that he had a family? That he was human?
I sent him another photo.
ID Profiler: [Your family portrait. Your daughter is really cute.]
Another long silence followed.
ID Chasing Light: [Don’t think I won’t find you just because you’re online. I’ll kill you sooner or later.]
I looked at the message. Is there really such a good thing?
So, I sent him a location pin.
ID Profiler: [I’m heading out tonight. I’ll leave the door unlocked for you.]
Then, the idiot went offline.
