Chapter 3
Chapter 3
I’m sorry, Aunt Zhang. I lied.
After leaving the residential complex, I drove straight to Anning Street.
Jiang Ning had mentioned she wanted to visit that night and sent me photos. The night market had looked beautiful and bustling, packed with people.
But as I looked around now during the day, it was desolate.
There was a noticeable lack of girls. Even if one or two passed by, they were in a great hurry.
Someone like me, walking by in a miniskirt, was truly the only one.
See? A world without girls really doesn’t work.
“Xue Ying!”
I turned my head and saw my brother, Xue Cangsong, running toward me. He looked quite angry.
Me: “…Bro, you look miserable.”
Xue Cangsong’s eyes were bloodshot from overwork. He had probably returned to the scene to check for missed clues after his shift had already ended.
Judging by the manic look on his face, progress was clearly not going well.
He rushed over and eyed my short skirt. “Don’t even think about using yourself as bait to lure him out. You’re not his type! Get home, now!”
Oh, so it really was a serial killer.
Only serial killers have specific preferences that the police would analyze.
I brushed his hand away. “I’m not here to fish. I’m here for milk tea.”
“Milk tea, my ass. Get the hell out of here…”
“Buy it for me, and I’ll leave as soon as I finish it.”
My brother thought about it and agreed.
He looked like he was about to drop dead from exhaustion anyway and wanted a place to sit.
We found a milk tea shop and sat down. As soon as we did, I dropped a bombshell on him.
“The killer might be nearby, you know.”
My brother froze.
I turned to look at the street. “This desolation is his achievement. The shop owners with their long faces, a busy little cop like you… he might actually come back to admire it.”
My brother realized I was fishing for information and shut his mouth tight.
But he couldn’t sew my mouth shut.
“I think he should be quite young, with plenty of physical strength.” I glanced at his expression after saying this.
My brother shook his head. “Stop guessing. I can’t disclose details of the case.”
I smiled.
I had made up the “quite young” part. To overpower a small girl like that, one didn’t necessarily have to be young.
But looking at my brother’s expression, the killer likely wasn’t young anymore.
Considering he was a serial killer, the span of his crimes was probably quite large.
That would be how the police could estimate his age.
“He likely has a medical background and experience dealing with the police… he might have even been in prison for something else.
“He’s very confident, isn’t he? Confident that he can clean up all traces and play games with you.”
My brother said, “He might not be that confident. You can tell from the way he cut off the victim’s tongue…”
Suddenly realizing he’d been baited, he shut up again.
The milk tea arrived just then. My brother handed it to me. “Drink up! And stop prying!”
“Oh.”
It didn’t matter. I’d already found out everything I wanted to know.
