Chapter 5
Chapter 5
I would never forget it. Back then, at eighteen, I had walked up to him full of joy, clutching a huge bouquet of roses. Shy and nervous, I said, “Lin Jun, I like you. Will you be my boyfriend?”
He did not even blink. In a voice as cold as ice, he said to me, “No.”
That feeling was as if I had been slapped countless times in front of everyone. My face burned like fire, and my heart felt as though it had been mauled by a beast.
In that moment, I swore that no matter the cost, I would make Lin Jun my devoted slave. I would return every bit of pain he had given me a thousand, ten thousand times over.
But he did not love me.
He had never loved me.
No matter what I did, he did not love me.
The more I spoke, the harder he coughed.
I walked to his side and gently patted his back, helping him catch his breath.
Bending down, I brought my lips close to his ear and asked softly, “Senior, suppose I gave you another chance. What would you do?”
With all the strength he had, he pushed me away with the back of his hand and shouted, “Get lost.”
He was angry.
But he did not know that the sight of him so furious excited me.
“Every time I kill someone, when they’re on the verge of death, I tell them, ‘Don’t blame me. If you want to blame someone, blame that man named Lin Jun. What right did he have? What right did he have to reject my love?'”
“What’s wrong with me?”
“I have money, I have looks. Why doesn’t he like me?”
“You were born innocent, yet you died an unnatural death. You spent your whole life toiling for your parents and children, but after you die, your parents will face a miserable old age, and your son will be left alone and helpless. If you can turn into a vengeful ghost, you must never forget to seek revenge on Lin Jun.”
Lin Jun’s coughing sounded as if it were laced with blood. Even the chair he sat in was trembling.
I laughed, letting out a particularly chilling laugh.
I pressed both hands heavily onto the chair he was sitting in. “So tell me. Why don’t you like me?”
“What’s wrong with me?”
“Give me one reason you don’t love me.”
He remained silent, desperately suppressing his emotions.
But at the very moment when I felt the most excited and satisfied, he actually laughed.
A mocking, contemptuous laugh.
“Pathetic!” he said. “You, the precious daughter of a major listed corporation, sitting on a fortune worth billions. So what? Aren’t you just like those ignorant women who think so little of themselves, hopelessly obsessed with love?”
“Why don’t I love you?”
He smiled and shook his head, then raised his face slightly and looked straight into my eyes. “I’d like to know that too. Why should I love you?”
“You have money? There are countless women in this world richer than you.”
“You have looks? Are you the most beautiful woman in the world?”
“Aside from those two things, do you have anything else worth being proud of?”
He asked me, “What a pity. Your looks were inherited from your parents, and your wealth was given to you by your father. What do you have that is truly your own?”
He lifted his hand and pointed at my heart. “A heart as venomous as a snake’s?”
