Chapter 1

After the charity event ended, I was just about to head home when I saw two of my former colleagues.

They held up their police IDs and thrust them right in front of me, their expressions solemn and severe. “Qi Jun, you are suspected of poisoning Lin Jun, an officer of the Criminal Police Team. We are now asking you, in accordance with the law, to return to the police station with us for questioning.”

I was genuinely startled.

For a second, I almost thought they had found evidence that I had killed those ten innocent residents.

In the interrogation room, two police officers who had once been close with Lin Jun sat across from me. Their eyes were filled with anger-and, naturally, even more shock.

As for me, I was perfectly calm, with a smile on my face.

“Did you go through all this just to catch up with me?” I asked jokingly.

Old Chen slammed his palm down hard on the table, producing a dull thud. In a businesslike tone, he said, “We will now verify your identity. Name: Qi Jun. ID number: xxxxx. Place of origin: xx. Are the above details consistent with your personal information?”

I nodded. “They are. I am Qi Jun.”

The other colleague, Ah Qi, asked, “At around ten o’clock this morning, were you at the entrance of Nanlan First Hospital taking part in the charity event titled ‘Education Is the Foundation of the Nation: Encouraging Urban Teachers to Teach in Rural Areas’?”

“Yes.”

I answered crisply. Ah Qi looked at me in surprise, and I understood what he meant.

I explained, “I used to be a police officer. I know the interrogation process. I only need to answer ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ right?”

Ah Qi had no comeback and shut his mouth in embarrassment.

Old Chen continued, “During the charity event, did you see Lin Jun, captain of the Nanlan City Criminal Police Team?”

“Yes.”

“You gave him a bottle of mineral water?”

“Yes.”

“Was the bottle you handed him already opened?”

I frowned, thought about it, then replied, “It probably was.”

“We need an accurate answer.”

I said innocently, “I don’t remember.”

The hospital entrance was a public place, so there would definitely be surveillance cameras. But whether they had captured me twisting open that bottle was another question altogether.

They exchanged a glance, momentarily unsure what to ask next.

Curious, I asked, “Captain Lin was poisoned? Because of the bottle of mineral water I gave him?”

In an instant, I understood.

As expected of the man I had adored for ten years. He really was smart.

Under my step-by-step guidance, he had finally realized that the Blind Man Murder Case had been orchestrated by me from start to finish.

But he also understood that all the evidence had been wiped clean, and every witness would be silent forever.

So he had thrown away his professionalism and duty as a police officer and used that bottle of mineral water I gave him to make a fuss.

His goal was simply to bring me into the interrogation room.

How pitiful!!!

A police officer, knowingly breaking the law and framing me just to bring the real killer to justice?

The next time we met, I would make sure to mock him properly for it.
