Chapter 4
Chapter 4
A commotion suddenly broke out not far away.
I looked up and saw several people walking in. The boy at the head of the group was practically being orbited by everyone else. He was good-looking, and judging by the scene, probably some rich young master too.
Plenty of people who had been eating turned to look.
Wen Jun’an glanced over and gave a cold snort. “Poser.”
Seeing that my gaze was still on him, Wen Jun’an reached out and physically turned my head back around.
“Sis, you just got back, so there are a lot of things you don’t know. That group that just walked by-especially that bastard in the middle-stay away from him. He’s a total poser.”
“Anyone who can act even more fake than your brother can’t be anything good.”
“…”
I fell silent for a moment, unable to understand this particular art form of injuring the enemy by a thousand while damaging himself by eight hundred.
When I didn’t respond, Wen Jun’an grew suspicious. For once, he called me by my full name.
“Wen Lingyun, don’t tell me you’ve been bewitched by that pretty boy?”
“No.” I lowered my eyes, thinking back to the photo of the top-ranked student I’d seen earlier on the school’s honor roll.
What was his name again?
He Shinian.
I wasn’t interested in him as a person, but I was very interested in his number one ranking.
Wen Jun’an was still bad-mouthing him.
“That guy is seriously shady. Little girls like you are the easiest to fool with a face like his…”
His resentment was heavy. I could tell the two of them had history.
I nodded along.
But Wen Jun’an paused. I looked up and met those eyes so similar to mine, now scrutinizing me.
“You’re humoring me!” he accused.
In the few days since returning to my biological family, I had confirmed that my personality and my fraternal twin brother’s were worlds apart.
His emotional needs were far too intense.
Like a beagle.
I pressed my fingers to my temple, feeling a headache coming on.
After the day’s classes ended and I returned home, my parents first asked how I was adjusting.
Everything was fine.
Then Wen Jun’an and Wen Shuyan, the siblings, started chattering nonstop by my ears.
By the end of dinner, I even knew the name of the dog at Wen Shuyan’s classmate’s house.
Her need to talk was also extremely intense.
I glanced at my parents. They were as steady as mountains, occasionally nodding perfunctorily. From the looks of it, they had long since grown used to this.
Sitting between the siblings, I adapted quickly too.
I really had no idea how such a composed pair of parents had raised two beagle children.
About a week later, I had fully adjusted to the new school.
It really was very different.
In the past, I had been a boarding student. Seven or eight people shared one dorm room, and I slept in a tiny bed. It wasn’t exactly hardship; I just didn’t have much money on hand.
Now a driver took me to and from school every day. At lunch, Wen Jun’an supervised me. He seemed to have a minimum spending requirement for my meals, insisting that I order up to a certain amount.
“You’re way too skinny. Eat more while you can still grow taller and get some nutrition. From now on, order according to this standard.”
As for Wen Shuyan, she specially crossed more than half the campus to bring me a huge bag of snacks.
“Sis, eat more!” She pulled out a snack in red packaging and said devoutly, “I calculated it for you. Your lucky color today is red!”
“…”
She had just been about to slip away when Wen Jun’an, standing by the window, grabbed her by the back of her collar. “Wen Shuyan, am I not family in this class too? Where’s mine?”
The little girl with the high ponytail flicked her side-swept bangs and said with perfect confidence, “If you want some, buy it yourself.”
Wen Jun’an laughed in anger. “I knew it. Ever since you were little, you only wanted a sister, not a brother!”
According to the later complaints of the person involved, when Wen Shuyan was a few years old, she couldn’t yet distinguish the concept of boys and girls. Seeing that a classmate in kindergarten had an older sister, she wanted one too, so she went home and called Wen Jun’an “big sister” for a while.
