Chapter 5
Inside the luxurious suite, I opened my laptop and put in the disc.
Since everyone was here, I planned to take another careful look at the cursed recording.
The screen flickered twice, then turned that familiar white.
Just then, a girl’s cries of pain rang through the room.
Huh?
Had I picked up the wrong disc?
Song Feifei, who’d been keeping well away a moment earlier, rushed over and shoved aside Chi Shuo, who was sitting closer to the laptop.
“Honestly, Lingzhu! Why didn’t you show me the good stuff sooner? Are we even friends?”
Unfortunately, she was clearly disappointed by what came next.
It was still a man hidden in black mist, followed by that familiar line:
“Seven days. You have seven days left. Heh heh heh…”
The recording ended, but the girl’s cries didn’t stop.
Were they coming from the next room?
Was the soundproofing in these luxury suites really this bad?
Song Feifei grabbed a glass and bounded to the wall like a monkey.
She pressed its rim against the wall, put her ear to the base, and started eavesdropping.
I sighed, walked over, and took the glass away.
“Has it occurred to you that you’re listening to the hallway? Their room is that way.”
There had been something very wrong with that girl’s cries. I put away my laptop and opened the door.
“Something’s happening next door. I’m going to check. Stay in here and don’t wander off.”
I knocked. Ou Chenyi opened the door almost immediately, so quickly that it seemed he’d been standing there waiting for me.
He wiped the corner of his mouth. A few drops of fresh blood still marked his pale, lean chin.
“Dear Lingzhu. You’ve finally come to see me.”
I rolled my eyes, pushed past him, and entered the room. The pretty girl we’d just seen was lying on the spacious double bed in a spaghetti-strap nightdress. Two deep fang marks pierced her slender neck.
“A vampire?”
I looked at Ou Chenyi in surprise. I’d seen jiangshi, ghosts, monsters, spirits, and mountain demons.
But this was my first time seeing a live vampire. They were an imported species, after all. Still fairly rare.
Ou Chenyi raised an eyebrow, the interest in his eyes deepening.
“What an interesting girl. Aren’t you afraid of me?”
“Of course not! I love vampires. Have you seen Twilight? Oh, the love story of a vampire and a beautiful girl. How romantic!”
With a coquettish laugh, I playfully pounded his chest.
“Oh, are you going to bite my neck straight away? Just thinking about it is so exciting!”
The light in Ou Chenyi’s eyes faded. He stepped back in distaste, trying to avoid my little fists.
“You’re not quite what I imagined.”
He leaned down and drew in a blissful breath.
“But you have the sweetest scent I’ve ever smelled. I’ll be gentle later. I promise.”
I tugged his clothes and led him toward the sofa.
“What’s the rush? Before we get down to business, let’s watch a little movie. A really exciting one.”
Ou Chenyi chuckled softly, his broad chest vibrating.
“All right. Let’s see just how exciting it is…”
