Chapter 3
Ou Chenyi leaned down, edged closer to me, and sniffed softly, looking intoxicated.
“Lovely girl, what’s your name?”
I frowned. He stank!
No amount of perfume could hide the death energy and yin energy coming off him.
Could he be behind the disc?
“Her name is Lu Lingzhu. She’s twenty, and she’s already taken!”
Song Feifei rushed over and slapped his hand away, her face full of suspicion.
I pushed her aside and handed Ou Chenyi my phone. Only after adding his contact details did I drag her away under the murderous stares of the girls watching us.
“Lingzhu! You can’t let a pretty face go to your head!”
“Sure, Ou Chenyi is handsome, but you’re supposed to become a grandmaster!”
I rolled my eyes.
“You’ve trained with me for so long. Didn’t you notice anything wrong with him?”
Song Feifei frowned and thought for a moment.
“There is something wrong. He’s way too handsome. I’ve seen loads of celebrities, and none of them look as good as he does. If I stare at his face for too long, my heart starts racing and I get dizzy.”
“Stay away from him. I can’t work out what he is yet. He seems like a jiangshi, but not quite.”
“What? A jiangshi?”
Just then, a tall boy walking ahead of me suddenly twisted his ankle and fell into the road on our left. The car that had been moving slowly behind him abruptly accelerated, hurtling toward him where he lay in the middle of the road.
“Chi Shuo!”
I pushed off hard and shot forward like a cannonball, reaching the middle of the road in the blink of an eye. There was no time to think. I scooped up the boy, who was sitting there stunned, and raced to the roadside as fast as I could.
The car sped away. Everyone by the road was dumbfounded by what had just happened.
After ten seconds of silence, thunderous applause broke out.
Song Feifei lifted her neck like a swan and raised her hands, gesturing for everyone to settle down.
“Oh, please, keep it low-key. Saving people from disaster is just what our Lingzhu does. No need to get so excited.”
I didn’t have the energy to listen to her brag. I set down the boy I’d been carrying bridal-style, braced my hands on my knees, and started panting.
I was exhausted. It had looked like only a few seconds, but the exertion was enormous. I needed a moment.
“Lingzhu! You’re Master Lingzhu!”
The boy who’d been sitting there like an idiot sprang into the air, grabbed my hand, and started shouting excitedly.
“It’s me! I’m Chi Shuo, the one who sent you the disc!”
“Oh, so you’re the little bastard!”
Song Feifei rushed over and seized his collar.
“Chi Shuo, are you okay? Holy shit—Lingzhu! Song Feifei!”
Watching the three of them tangled together, I rubbed my temples.
What on earth was going on?
After a round of explanations, the misunderstanding was cleared up and the bad feelings were put to rest.
Chi Shuo and Zhong Weiyan showered me with extravagant praise. According to them, I was a marvel without equal, practically on a par with the founding patriarch of Mount Longhu.
Song Feifei’s face flushed with excitement. She looked so proud that anyone who didn’t know better would have thought they were praising her.
