Chapter 4
Chi Shuo was tall and delicately handsome, with fair skin and refined features—the kind of boy girls adored.
Zhong Weiyan, on the other hand, had warm tan skin and looked athletic at a glance. When he smiled, two little dimples appeared.
Jiang University really did have enough handsome men to dazzle a girl!
Boys this pretty couldn’t be allowed to die just like that.
I patted Chi Shuo’s shoulder.
“You two have disaster written all over your faces.”
The bad luck around them was almost taking solid form. It was a good thing I was the one touching Chi Shuo. Anyone else would have tripped while walking on perfectly level ground.
“Come stay at a hotel with me for the next few days, so you don’t bring trouble down on anyone else.”
Chi Shuo and Zhong Weiyan showed us around campus and warmly treated us to a meal. Then they packed their bags and followed Song Feifei and me to the most expensive hotel downtown.
“Won’t staying downtown make it inconvenient for them to get to class?”
I gave Song Feifei an uneasy look. They were students, after all. They had classes every day.
Song Feifei tossed her head haughtily.
“I can’t sleep in a bedroom smaller than a hundred square meters. It makes me feel so cramped I could cry. I’ve arranged a driver for them. He’ll take them there and back every day.”
The evils of capitalism. I sighed. Fine. She had money, so whatever she said went.
Chi Shuo and Zhong Weiyan stood awkwardly in the luxurious lobby, looking embarrassed and nervous.
“Hey, what are you nervous about? The suite happens to have four bedrooms. Just yell, and Lingzhu and I will rush out to protect you.”
Song Feifei casually patted Chi Shuo’s chest, only to find him staring angrily ahead with his fists clenched.
We followed his gaze toward the entrance.
Ou Chenyi was walking toward reception with his arm around a pretty, tall girl.
Zhong Weiyan noticed something was wrong with Chi Shuo too. He turned around and gasped.
“Holy shit, Chi Shuo! Your ex!”
Hmm?
I smelled gossip!
Song Feifei and I instantly pricked up our ears. Our eyes met, sparks flying between us as we exchanged a hundred and eight thoughts in an instant.
Unlike the grief-stricken Chi Shuo, his beautiful ex didn’t so much as lift an eyelid.
She gazed at Ou Chenyi in a trance, the adoration in her eyes almost tangible.
I looked at Ou Chenyi, then at Chi Shuo.
At Chi Shuo, then at Ou Chenyi.
Well. I couldn’t say Chi Shuo had lost unfairly.
Ou Chenyi had booked a suite too, right next to ours.
All six of us got into the same elevator. Ou Chenyi played with the girl’s hand while staring straight at me.
Song Feifei and I exchanged a look. In that cramped space, the silence grew awkward.
Ou Chenyi lifted the girl’s hand to his lips and kissed it gently.
“Darling, you smell delicious.”
They made a lovely couple. The picture would have been more harmonious if his eyes hadn’t stayed on me the whole time.
Behind me, Song Feifei was furiously poking my back.
I knew what she must have been trying to say:
“Lingzhu! He’s trying to seduce you! He’s seducing you!”
Anyone could see that.
The elevator doors finally opened. Ou Chenyi took the girl’s hand and walked out first.
Before leaving, he made sure to glance back at me and hold up his thumb and little finger in a phone gesture.
“Call me.”
“That man has absolutely no shame!”
Chi Shuo and Zhong Weiyan nodded frantically beside us.
Song Feifei had spoken for us all.
