Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Xu Jin’s home was very bare-bones, and the space was tiny. I still wasn’t used to living in a place like this.
Her family wasn’t well-off. Her parents were always running around trying to make ends meet and rarely had time to keep her company.
Most of the time, she was the only one at home.
That was just as well. It saved me from slipping up in front of her parents.
On Saturday morning, I was woken by a knock at the door.
When I saw it was Chen Yi, I quickly shut the door.
“Wait!”
“Speak.”
He rubbed his hands together, looking conflicted. “There’s something I want to tell you.”
“…”
“Spit it out!”
“Xiao Jin, I’ve fallen for someone else.”
“And?”
Why was he telling me?
“The person I like is Xiao Xiao. She’s innocent and kind, like a lively little sun. I can’t stop myself from being drawn to her.” Chen Yi was still rambling on to himself.
I was old, after all. I truly didn’t understand the feelings of youngsters. I had no idea what he was trying to say.
“Then… shall I bestow a marriage upon the two of you?”
“…”
“May you grow old together and be blessed with children soon. You may kneel outside the door to give thanks for my grace. I’m going back to sleep.”
I made to close the door, but Chen Yi blocked it again.
“Xu Jin, aren’t you going to say anything?”
Me: ?
Seeing my silence, he couldn’t help stressing, “I’m your boyfriend!”
I’d nearly forgotten about that. After all, I wasn’t the real Xu Jin.
“So you’re reminding me that you’re my boyfriend, yet you’ve fallen for another girl and cheated on me. Is that right?”
Chen Yi: …
“You can’t put it like that.”
Before I could speak, darkness fell over my vision again.
I became painfully aware that Xu Jin was the true owner of this body. She could take back control at any moment.
The only reason I’d been able to control her these past few days was because she was running from reality, and had handed her body over to me.
That spineless little pushover had hidden in her shell for so long, yet now she had actually surfaced for Chen Yi’s sake.
Xu Jin had always been able to see what was happening outside, but I couldn’t.
Once I lost control, I couldn’t even feel the passage of time.
When I opened my eyes again, Chen Yi and I were frozen in an awkward position.
He was bent forward, trying to pry himself away, while I was hugging him around the waist from behind, refusing to let him leave no matter what.
My eyes and cheeks were wet.
“Xu Jin, you can’t stop me. We’ve already broken up.”
I abruptly let go, and Chen Yi tumbled forward from the momentum.
He panted on the floor for a couple of breaths, then struggled to his feet.
“Let’s part on good terms. You’ll find someone better.”
I burst out laughing and raised a hand to wipe the tears from my face.
“What are you laughing at?”
“Sigh. She couldn’t even keep someone like you. What makes you think she has the ability to find someone better?”
She’d be lucky if the next one wasn’t another piece of trash.
Chen Yi felt like I was insulting him, but he wasn’t entirely sure.
Forget it. It wasn’t as if those words were meant for him anyway.
I turned and went back inside, shutting Chen Yi outside the door.
