Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Shen Ci moved out of our marital home and bought a new villa.
Su Sangsang stood in front of the mirror, surrounded by expensive clothes and handbags.
Delighted, she kept trying them on one after another.
“Shen Ci really is generous. He bought me all this the moment we made things official. If we get married, won’t he be even more generous?”
The System said, “Don’t worry, Host. I’ll definitely help you marry Shen Ci. When the time comes, half of the Shen family’s fortune will be yours.”
Su Sangsang smiled until her eyes curved.
“Of course I believe you. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t even have been able to get close to Shen Ci.”
As she spoke, her expression twisted with resentment.
“It’s all that bitch Lin Xinliu’s fault. Even after dying, she still won’t leave us alone. If it weren’t for her, I would’ve married Shen Ci ages ago. What nonsense about following customs and not being able to marry for three years. Pah!”
On the day Shen Ci and I got married, the officiant asked the groom if he would remain loyal to the bride for the rest of his life.
At the time, Shen Ci had nodded solemnly and earnestly, saying he would.
But that night, I secretly made a different promise with him.
“Honey, if I die, three years. Just three years is enough. I don’t want forever.”
I didn’t know whether it truly was a custom, or whether Shen Ci had remembered the promise we made that night.
But without a doubt, this outcome was for the best.
Shen Ci’s destined heroine had appeared, and I had not made him swear an oath he could never keep.
Shen Ci had spent three years wasting away in grief. He had already done more than enough for me. After this, he deserved to begin a new chapter.
For the rest of his life, the one by his side should be Su Sangsang.
Su Sangsang sulked for a while, then cheered up again.
“Still, at least the three years are almost over. System, you have to keep helping me this time. I want to marry beautifully and become Mrs. Lin in grand style.”
“Rest assured, Host. I’ve been rated Best System for three years in a row. I guarantee there won’t be a single mistake.”
Su Sangsang was pleased as well and casually praised it.
“Of course I believe you. Back then, that bitch Lin Xinliu was diagnosed with stomach cancer and kept actively seeking treatment. If you hadn’t done something, she might really not have died.”
The System’s tone was smug.
“I merely accelerated the spread of her cancer cells. It was nothing.”
“Mm, well done. But it is strange. Why did that bitch suddenly start getting regular checkups? According to the plot, she shouldn’t have found out until the late stage…”
I could no longer hear what came after that. My mind was a tangled mess.
Those words kept crashing into my head, making me dizzy and disoriented beyond my control.
So that was it. So my death had not been an accident.
I had discovered my illness early. I should have been able to receive treatment in time.
It was because this System deliberately interfered that I died in the end.
I couldn’t stop myself from lunging forward.
I wanted to grab the culprit that had caused my death.
But I had forgotten that, at this moment, I was only a drifting, transparent wisp of a soul.
All I could do was watch as my arm passed straight through Su Sangsang’s throat.
As if sensing something, Su Sangsang sneezed.
“Don’t tell me that bitch Lin Xinliu is cursing me from underground. I haven’t even settled the score with her yet. If I’d known, I shouldn’t have waited for the plot back then. I should have killed her the first time I saw her…”
Her unfinished words vanished beneath the creak of the door being pushed open.
Shen Ci stood there in a black coat, carrying the night wind in with him from outside.
His eyes were pitch-black. When he looked at someone, he was like a savage, violent beast, enough to send a chill through anyone’s heart.
“What were you just saying?”
Shen Ci asked suddenly.
