I drifted along behind Su Sangsang.

The female lead of the story had a pretty, innocent face.

I heard her complaining to the empty air.

“System, are you sure Shen Ci likes me? His face is as cold as ice every day. He acts like I’m his enemy or something.”

A cold, mechanical voice rang out. It must have been the System Su Sangsang was talking about.

“Host, the role you are playing is that of the little sun. As long as you keep taking the initiative, you will soften the male lead’s heart. Remember to bring the male lead breakfast tomorrow.”

Su Sangsang curled her lip. “Fine. If it weren’t for the fifty-million-yuan prize, I never would have taken this stupid mission. Every day, I’m throwing myself at him just to get the cold shoulder.”

“Still, Shen Ci is handsome and rich. I actually do kind of like him. Marrying him and spending the rest of my life with him would be pretty great, and I’d get half his assets too. Compared to that, fifty million is nothing.”

I froze in place.

System? Prize money? Mission? What did that mean?

Sure enough, early the next morning, Su Sangsang brought breakfast to the company.

She smiled shyly, giving off the pure innocence unique to a young girl.

Shen Ci was a germaphobe and usually kept strangers at arm’s length, but now, for the first time ever, he accepted the breakfast.

Not only that, he even gave the order for Su Sangsang, an intern, to be made a full-time employee ahead of schedule.

It was completely different from the way he had treated me back then.

At the time, our relationship had been at its sweetest, and Shen Ci’s childhood friend was my direct superior.

But Shen Ci still required me to follow the company’s rules.

He said he believed in my abilities and didn’t want to pull strings for me, only to have people gossip behind my back.

I couldn’t tell whether my way had been better or Su Sangsang’s way was.

But it was obvious that Su Sangsang was somewhat special to Shen Ci.

After that day, Su Sangsang was exceptionally promoted to become Shen Ci’s personal assistant.

The two of them were practically inseparable every day.

They ate together during work hours and went to the movies together on holidays.

Everyone could see how differently Shen Ci treated Su Sangsang.

The employees discussed it among themselves, all relieved that Shen Ci had finally begun another relationship.

“Our President Shen really is devoted. Ever since Miss Lin left, he’s practically lived at the company day and night, pouring all his energy into work.”

“That day, I was wondering why President Shen kept staring out the window. Later, I found out that a new chain store had opened across from the company. It was Miss Lin’s favorite cake shop when she was alive. That afternoon, President Shen was so distracted that he, usually so meticulous, signed several contracts incorrectly.”

“Miss Lin was such a good person. I remember that every time she came to the company, she ordered afternoon tea for all of us.”

“That’s right. But people still have to move forward. President Shen is willing to leave the past behind and start a new life. We’re all happy for him.”
