Chapter 4

“Ling Chang… are… are you hurt?” I wanted to ask him if Ling Changjun was injured.

Before I could finish the name, Jiang Mengzhou suddenly gripped my neck with one hand. I could barely breathe, and I hurriedly changed what I was about to say.

“You care that much about this wild man?”

I shook my head as a wave of terror washed over me, a chill rising from the soles of my feet.

With tears in my eyes, I begged for mercy. “Brother, it hurts.”

I was afraid of provoking him further; I knew I would be the only one to suffer.

But I didn’t expect that this plea would completely ignite his primal lust.

He kissed me violently, and the metallic taste of blood instantly filled my mouth.

As the kiss continued, I realized his hands had begun to wander over my body.

For all these years, he had only ever kissed me and never touched me further. Today, he had been truly and utterly enraged by Ling Changjun and me.

He began to tear at my dress. I was powerless to resist at every step.

My scalp felt numb, and my blood ran cold. In a state of extreme terror, I blacked out.

When I woke up again, he was gone. There were bloodstains beneath me.

Following the instructions in the email, I told the police the truth about my memories.

The police suspected that I might have accidentally killed Jiang Mengzhou while he was forcing himself on me.

I handed over my medical records to the police, and they took them to be verified.

It wasn’t long before the police sent me back home.

Exhausted, I returned to the house. As I walked through the entryway, I caught a strange scent.

The smell carried a hint of stench, drifting in and out of my perception.

There were shoe boxes and cabinets in the entryway, so I opened them one by one to check.

There was nothing unusual in the shoe cabinet, only Jiang Mengzhou’s shoes, which emitted a faint odor of foot sweat.

I didn’t think much of it and went back to my desk to open the email, continuing to read the part I hadn’t finished before going to the station.

The last sentence of the email caused me to break down instantly.

“If the police drop their investigation into you, ignore all subsequent emails. If they still won’t let you go, give the third email to the police. Little one, be good and listen.”

Little one. Seeing those two words, I suddenly couldn’t stop myself from sobbing. The more my tears flowed, the more miserable I felt, until I was wailing at the top of my lungs.

This was the first time I had cried like this in all the days since the incident.

When Ling Changjun was alive, he loved to call me “little one.”

He was my husband, but he was also my professor.

During the breaks in his lectures, there were always many girls chasing after him to ask questions. I would stare at him, fuming.

Noticing the resentment on my face, he would suddenly put down his thermos and walk straight toward me, asking gently, “Did you sleep well last night?”

Before he even finished speaking, the entire classroom would go silent. Everyone stopped what they were doing and cast astonished glances our way.

Without blushing or a racing heart, I would answer loudly, “Thanks to Professor Ling for helping me chase off a stalker last night! Thank you for your chivalry and for stepping in to help!”

Oh, so that was it. The gossip-hungry crowd would then applaud Professor Ling for his heroic spirit.

Ling Changjun’s lips would curl into a smile as he reached out to pat my head dotingly. Since I was still angry, I would nimbly dodge him, leaving his hand hanging awkwardly in mid-air.

Once, as he was about to leave, I had a sudden impulse and stuck out my leg.

He stumbled and quickly grabbed my hand, and I fell backward along with him.

Fortunately, there was a wall behind us. He pulled me back with him, and I was pinned, unable to break free-I had been inexplicably cornered against the wall.

My upper body was pressed completely against the wall. He braced one hand against the surface and gripped my wrist with the other, most of his body pressed against mine.

The classroom, which had just started to get noisy again, fell silent in an instant before erupting into a frenzy a few seconds later.

I had tried to be clever only to end up outsmarting myself! I was so embarrassed that I couldn’t find any strength. Right in front of the whole class, he leaned down until his face was only a palm’s width away from mine. Looking at me with a smile, his thin lips parted: “You’re quite bold, little one. Daring to play tricks on your teacher? Hmm?”

After that incident, the whole school knew about our relationship, and no more girls tried to cling to him.

He rejected all other advances for my sake, giving me a total sense of security. It hadn’t been easy, but we had finally started our first year together.

Changjun, we’ve only been married for half a year. Didn’t you say you’d take me to see the ocean for my birthday?

The more beautiful the memories, the more painful the present became.

Our past was like a dagger, carving into my heart stroke by stroke, hurting so much that I could barely breathe.
