Chapter 3
Chapter 3
But in the very next second, an older kitchen worker in an apron appeared beside him.
He patted the boy on the shoulder, his accent thick and his expression sincere.
“Young man, we’re running out of bowls. Could you return the two you borrowed just now?”
“…”
“Sure, sure. Sorry about that.”
After the man left, the livestream chat was instantly flooded with “HAHAHAHA.”
The boy’s face turned red all the way down to his neck, and he silently buried his head.
I laughed so hard I could barely breathe.
“Too cute.”
The comments:
[It’s time. Sister Chao still isn’t ending the stream?]
[She’s having too much fun flirting right now. How could she remember how she usually rushes to end the stream and tells us not to waste her time?]
[I’m tired of saying the words “double standard.”]
The boy glanced at the comments.
Then he suddenly sat up straight.
“Sister, I-I wasn’t prepared tonight. I have other things at home. Can I come find you again t-tomorrow so you can take a look?”
“Of course you can.”
“Sister, then… then I’ll leave the mic now.”
So soon?
Why not chat a little longer?
It wasn’t like I had anything to do after ending the stream except work anyway. So what if I wasted a little time?
“Sister… how do I leave the mic…?”
I widened my eyes and pretended to be surprised.
“Huh? I don’t know either. I only started livestreaming not long ago, so there are still a lot of things I haven’t figured out. Why don’t we-”
Chat a little longer?
But in the very next second, his side of the screen suddenly went black.
He had been kicked off the mic without warning.
Me: “???”
Just then, my junior, who was acting as the stream moderator, floated a comment across the chat to take credit.
[Senior Sister, I know how to do that one!]
“…”
I took a deep breath and roared,
“Look at you showing off! If you do that again tomorrow, you’re going back to the countryside to carry manure!”
I still hadn’t had enough.
But there was nothing I could do except end the stream while cursing under my breath.
The moment the camera turned off,
the expression on my face slowly vanished.
My eyes returned to calm as well.
Livestreaming was acting. Truth mixed with lies, lies mixed with truth.
For the sake of the show, every emotion had to be magnified.
While washing up before bed, I caught sight of myself in the mirror.
My bangs had grown long enough to cover half my face. I wore enormous black-framed glasses, the lenses as thick as bottle bottoms.
My messy hair was piled into a nest on top of my head.
It was time to switch up my image.
I quickly started fixing myself up.
At the same time, my face-changing livestream clip was edited into memes by sleepless netizens and posted online.
My nickname as Double-Standard Sister gradually began to spread.
My account’s follower count quietly, inconspicuously crossed the one-million mark.
The moment I started streaming the next day, thirty thousand people flooded into the room.
Half of them were even girls.
Girls had always rarely watched my streams.
After asking around, I found out that a clip of me teasing the handsome guy had gone viral.
Everyone thought the way I changed my attitude and treated him differently was hilarious.
They were all waiting for him to come online again today so they could watch the two of us interact.
However, at that moment, the viewers in the livestream room were all shocked.
The comments flew by at top speed.
[Did someone else take over today???]
[Holy crap, so you were actually this insanely pretty?!]
[I’ve followed Sister Chao for a year, and only today did I learn her eyes are this big.]
[If I’d known you looked like this, I’d gladly let you scold me a little.]
[Is it because you’re meeting the handsome guy today?]
[A hot guy and a pretty girl. Even better to ship!]
The number of viewers online broke past fifty thousand in no time.
Sure enough, only a big enough contrast could draw people in.
