Chapter 5
Chapter 5
“What else would I do?” I looked up in confusion.
It was lumpy and uncomfortable-why wouldn’t I throw it away?
I’m already miserable enough, dragged into this strange world for no reason, becoming a universally disliked person. Don’t I even have the right to throw away a safety charm?
I don’t even want to live, so why would I care about a faded safety charm?
Wen Suinian’s voice grew angrier, rising sharply:
“Jiang He, do you even remember how this safety charm came to be?”
I lifted my eyelids, saying calmly:
“I don’t remember.”
A thick book stands in my mind; I don’t have the leisure to leaf through it carefully. I only skimmed the plot, knowing the world I’m in and the original owner’s circumstances. As for the safety charm-countless words fill the pages, perhaps with a passing mention, but it left absolutely no impression in my mind.
Wen Suinian fumed with rage, a thin layer of anger visible on his face. He stood up and stared at my indifferent expression, trying to find a trace of deliberate pretense. But my utterly calm look told him I truly didn’t remember.
He irritably kicked the safety charm aside and sneered:
“Jiang He, your acting is getting more and more brilliant.
“I think you hired those kidnappers to put on a show, just to get our attention and come back to the Wen Family.
“Now it seems, eighteen years ago, it’s a good thing we kept Chuchu, not you, with your scheming mind!”
No matter how many heart-piercing words Wen Suinian said, they couldn’t stir my emotions. After all, I had no intention of staying in this world.
I ignored Wen Suinian and looked around the hospital room. The room was on the eighteenth floor-a very auspicious number. The window opened wide enough to let me pass through freely.
Sorry, doctors and nurses, for wasting your valuable medical time.
Outside, the evening glow filled the sky, fiery clouds scattered sparsely. No time like the present. I pressed on my wound and slowly shuffled to the windowsill. Wen Suinian stood there with arms crossed, watching my struggling figure and sneered again:
“What, going to put on a self-harming act now? To covet the Wen Family’s money, you really will stop at nothin- Jiang He!!”
His sarcastic words weren’t finished before shattering into horror on his face. In Wen Suinian’s widening pupils, I took a deep breath, my expression suddenly relaxed, closed my eyes, and swiftly vaulted over the window, plunging down.
