Chapter 10
Chapter 10
The sound of the knife clattered.
I jumped in fright and hurriedly grabbed his fingers. “How could you be so careless?”
A trail of blood marked his long, pale fingers.
“It’s nothing,” he said, pulling out a handkerchief and unhurriedly wiping the blood from his fingertips. “Why would you think that?”
I snatched the handkerchief away, heart aching as I wiped the blood and bandaged him, recounting everything I had seen today in the process.
“Initially, I thought ‘Jun Qingyu’ was a name, but it turns out it was just an inscription on a jade pendant. That pendant is probably mass-produced.”
I finished with a sigh, then suddenly frowned. “Or perhaps it’s not mass-produced, but some kind of exclusive set. Qing… Hey, do you think that woman in the carriage has anything to do with you?”
“That woman has nothing to do with me,” he said flatly.
“You’ve lost your memory, how do you know it’s not related?” I asked subconsciously.
He slowly raised his eyes and looked at me. “Do you… hope there’s a connection?”
That question…
If there were a connection, it would have to be kin, siblings, or…
Hiss!
I suddenly snapped out of it. Besides relatives, those who wore a pair of matching jade pendants could also be husband and wife!
Following that line of thought – I didn’t even dare think it!
I met his gaze and slowly, very slowly, swallowed hard.
This trouble was likely going to be huge…
“Regardless, I have no relation to that woman, nor to anyone other than you.
“The matter of the jade pendant is a coincidence, and it can only be a coincidence.
“My name and my identity are not important.
“Furthermore…”
He turned his head and kissed my cheek, then bit my neck.
“Furthermore, the fact that we are husband and wife is an unshakeable reality.”
The bite on my neck wasn’t light, and I sucked in a breath of cold air.
He licked the tooth marks he’d left, his gentle tone carrying a hint of cloying obsession:
“We are husband and wife. For three lifetimes, for many lifetimes, we will always be husband and wife.”
Perhaps out of insecurity, he was unusually fierce that night.
Every inch of my body, every place that could be touched, was ‘taken care of.’
I was a heavy sleeper with a big heart.
I slept so deeply I lost track of time, only waking abruptly when I rolled over and my arm hit empty space.
No one was by the bedside.
Outside the coarse hemp bed curtains, there was a flicker of dim yellow light.
I pulled back the curtains only to see a waterfall of long hair.
Jun Qingyu had his back to me, chewing something meticulously.
“Qingqing?”
I threw on a garment and got out of bed, only then seeing clearly what he was doing.
Under the faint light of an oil lamp.
He had unwrapped all the food I had brought back and was stuffing it into his mouth, piece by piece, bit by bit.
“Are you hungry?” I was a bit surprised; even if he were hungry, there was no need to eat this much.
He didn’t answer, picking up a pastry and stuffing it into his mouth.
“Qingqing, what’s wrong?” I felt nervous.
He swallowed the pastry and spoke gloomily, “You bought so many things for me to eat today. In the future, will you still buy them for me?”
“Of course I will!” I said immediately. “In the future – no, not the future, tomorrow. I’ll go into the city tomorrow. As long as I can afford it, I’ll bring everything back for you!”
“You’re not lying to me?” He looked toward me.
“I’m not lying, I’m not lying. When have I ever lied to you?”
I gathered the items again, tied them up, and pulled him along to rinse his mouth and wash his hands before leading him back to bed.
Once he was tucked under the covers, I hugged his waist and patted him gently, as if coaxing a child:
“I promise, as long as that woman isn’t your wife… even if they really come looking for you, I will never abandon you.”
Some things don’t cease to exist just because you cover your ears and close your eyes.
That woman, that jade pendant – we couldn’t avoid them.
Judging by today’s display of pomp and power, the visitors were not friendly. It was only a matter of time before they found this place.
Jun Qingyu knew it, and I knew it too.
However, if that woman really was Jun Qingyu’s wife, then he and I would be heinous villains.
He would be a heartless betrayer, and I would be a shameless hussy. The two of us wouldn’t even be worth the thousand cuts of a slow death.
But if they weren’t husband and wife…
Then even if ten thousand people stood in my way, I would not let go of his hand.
Perhaps my words touched him.
He suddenly flipped over, tore open my Sleeping Robe, and another wave of passion swept over us.
I wrapped my arms around his neck, eyes half-closed, letting out muffled whimpers.
In the midst of our dazed passion, my entire body suddenly froze.
Someone was here!
The footsteps of the people who came this time were too light, and they arrived at such a moment.
By the time I realized someone was approaching, it was too late.
The door was kicked open.
Dozens of people swarmed in instantly.
I instinctively clutched the quilt to cover myself, but was instead shrouded by Jun Qingyu’s voluminous white robe.
In the middle of the night, our door was kicked in and our home was invaded.
I was still in the middle of questioning, “Who is it?”
Yet Jun Qingyu, a man who couldn’t even truss a chicken, was exceptionally calm.
With practiced movements, he tied my sash and straightened my loose collar.
“Greetings, Chancellor!”
“Greetings, General!”
While I was speechless with shock, Jun Qingyu had already brushed aside the bed curtains, his gaze as cold as frost and snow:
“What is the punishment for trespassing into the private chambers of This Chancellor and Ni Luo?”
Me: “…”
I turned my neck, inch by inch, to look at Jun Qingyu’s side profile, which looked as if it were carved from ice and jade.

The General Above
I woke up in my arch-rival’s bed.
His clothes were in disarray, his body was covered in red marks, and his eyes were clouded with the lingering haze of intimacy.
