Chapter 5
Chapter 5
I woke up at dawn. After topping up my phone plan, my secondhand phone finally had internet access.
I opened WeChat. In Gu Zhiyan’s chat window, there was a missed call.
I ignored it.
Then I opened a food delivery app and went through the whole process to register as a delivery rider.
When I headed out to deliver orders, Bai Xi stopped me.
His hair was a little messy. He had clearly just woken up, dragged out of bed by the System.
Bai Xi said, “Aren’t you supposed to be at school at eight? Where are you going at five?”
“Delivering food.”
Calm and rational, I explained my plan to him. “I went to bed too late yesterday, but I still have two hours this morning to deliver food and make a few orders.”
“Starting tomorrow, I’m planning to get up a few hours earlier and help out at a breakfast shop. That’ll count as one part-time job.”
“The lunch break at school is pretty long too. I can go deliver food as soon as class ends, and the electric scooter makes it convenient. You only need one person for fortune-telling, so after school I’ll see if I can pick up some tutoring gigs.”
“The one good thing about that crappy school is that everyone there is rich. Today I’ll go ask those spoiled rich kids with bad grades…”
[Oh my god, the supporting female character is so pitiful. Why do I feel like she has it harder than the female lead?]
[What does having a hard life have to do with how vicious she is? Our Meibao grew up in the slums too, and she’s not scheming like her!]
Bai Xi froze. Without thinking, he muttered to himself, “Even our orphanage didn’t abuse minors this badly…”
I paused, then asked tentatively, “Orphanage?”
Bai Xi nodded like it was no big deal. “Yeah, I grew up in an orphanage-but don’t go do part-time work. I’ll figure out the money.”
He rubbed his face, looking a little more awake. “Let me do the math for you. According to your plan, even if you worked like that for a whole month, you still wouldn’t make as much as I did from fortune-telling last night.”
I said, “But that kind of income is really unstable. Bai Xi, prices in City A are high. Rent and living expenses are still up in the air, and then there’s my college tuition later…”
Bai Xi stared steadily at me.
I heard him exclaiming to the System in his mind.
[Bai Xi: How is Little White Flower this miserable?! System, send money!!!]
[The System rubbed its little fly hands together again: Sumimasen, I still haven’t found a rich second-generation body that died suddenly for you to transmigrate into…]
[Bai Xi: Forget it, I’ll do it myself-System, turn on automatic order-taking.
As long as you detect any wealthy person in need of feng shui or fortune-telling services, put me forward. I just got to this world, so I don’t have a reputation yet.]
[System: Understood. Taking orders for you now.]
With a plan in mind, Bai Xi pushed me back into the room.
“Go back to sleep. No matter what, this money is enough for you to rest for a few days. You’re already in your senior year, girl. Focus on studying.”
I went back to sleep for a little over an hour. After moving here, I had to get up an hour earlier than usual for school.
I went to the living room and rummaged through my suitcase, wanting to find my school uniform.
But the suitcase was empty.
I frowned and looked up, only to see my freshly washed school uniform and other clothes hanging out to dry on the balcony.
