Chapter 1
Chapter 1
The moment the Gu family driver asked me to get out of the car, I knew Gu Zhiyan had grown tired of me.
“I’m sorry, Miss Wei, but I wasn’t sent to pick you up today so you could play chess with Young Master Gu. The young master is holding a birthday party for Miss Su Wanwan, and he asked me to come get her.”
The driver was still quite polite about it.
We were both working people, so I didn’t make a scene and put him in a difficult position.
I closed the car door. “Is that so? Then I’ll head back on my own.”
Honestly, I wasn’t that surprised. From the moment Su Wanwan appeared, I’d known this day would come.
But he wasn’t even playing Go anymore?
He must really love her.
Gu Zhiyan loved Go as much as his own life. For the past six months, he’d had me go over every single day to play with him.
The place I lived was far away, so he rented me an apartment in a neighborhood near the Gu Residence. Going back and forth was inconvenient, so he even assigned a driver specifically to pick me up and drop me off.
Gu Zhiyan was truly hard to win over.
A noble young master like cold jade, innately indifferent and arrogant to the core.
He had more taboos than hobbies, rarely left home, was emotionally detached, and his only interest was playing Go.
The female lead, Su Wanwan, didn’t know how to play Go.
So I learned.
I gritted my teeth and cut back on several part-time jobs, spending all my time in Go clubs and learning from scratch.
I learned everything quickly, and soon became one of the few chess friends who could play a proper game against him.
Only then did I earn his favor.
Because we were chess friends, Gu Zhiyan was also willing to chat with me. Once, while we were playing, he sighed with emotion.
At the time, outside the lattice windows of the Chinese-style courtyard were lush green woods, bamboo, and cypress.
Incense curled slowly through the tea room.
The young man, as cold as jade, toyed with the agarwood prayer beads in his hand.
His cool, dark eyes seemed capable of seeing into the deepest part of a person’s heart.
“Watching someone play chess is like watching who they are. On the board, Ah Liang is rather like a gambler who kills her way through everything. How unexpected.”
I was indeed a “gambler” staking everything on one throw.
But I lost.
Go was my trump card, and yet the second Su Wanwan appeared, my entire year of effort went up in smoke.
-Fortunately, I still had the apartment Gu Zhiyan rented for me.
Seeing this scene, the bullet comments were delighted:
[Now this is the face-slapping I wanted!! The copycat is finally getting abandoned hahahahaha]
[Our precious female lead only needs to show her face, and Gu Zhiyan’s heart is instantly hooked. That’s the difference between the real thing and a fake!]
[I swear, look at that copycat’s expression. She isn’t going to start pulling some stunt again, is she?!]
[Please let the vicious supporting actress exit the story already! Stop coming out and disgusting people!]
I sat by the side of the road and rubbed my face.
I didn’t have time to deal with these bullet comments.
Because I’d just received a WeChat message from my landlord.
The apartment Gu Zhiyan had rented for me happened to expire today!
I had no money to renew the lease. I was now facing a grave survival problem:
-Where was I going to sleep tonight?
…
I went back to the rental first to pack my luggage, though I was so poor there wasn’t much to pack.
I searched up the prices for the cheapest hotels and inns in City A.
Then decisively gave up.
-If I’d known this would happen, I wouldn’t have copied Su Wanwan’s whole aloof-and-noble act.
I regretted not squeezing more money out of Gu Zhiyan.
Penniless, I dragged my suitcase from the most prosperous district in City A back to the most run-down slums.
[Strange? According to the plot, isn’t that Wei bitch supposed to go to Gu Zhiyan and act pitiful? Where is she going?]
[Lmao, she doesn’t think Gu Zhiyan will come looking for her if she runs away for a few days, does she?]
[She must be planning something huge. She’s the number one vicious antagonist in the whole book. Right now she definitely thinks Wanwan stole Gu Zhiyan from her and is getting ready to take revenge on Wanwan!]
I just felt so hungry.
When my stomach was empty, my temper got really bad.
The bullet comments were just a mass of air, so I couldn’t take my anger out on them. And right now, I couldn’t even afford the cheapest inn in the slums.
The map showed a McDonald’s nearby that was open twenty-four hours.
I followed the navigation, dragging my suitcase along, planning to spend the night sleeping with my head down on a table at McDonald’s.
I passed through a dim alley.
Suddenly, several burly shadows sprang out.
Five sleazy-looking thugs surrounded me completely.
[Ah! Why is this plot point happening here?]
[It seems like the third female lead got jealous of Su Wanwan and hired these idle members of society to… But later there’s supposed to be a scene where the male lead saves the damsel in distress.]
[But Gu Zhiyan is with Su Wanwan right now. He won’t make it in time, will he?]
[Wei Liang deserves it! Who told her to copy our Wanwan in everything? Serves her right that it fell on her!]
[Even a vicious supporting actress shouldn’t end up like this! Supporting actress, hurry up and call the police!]
The hungrier I got, the more annoyed I became.
But the bullet comments just said-
Idle members of society? Did they have criminal records?
I looked the five punks over thoughtfully, then suddenly spoke.
“How much money do you have on you?”
