Chapter 3
“How do you know?”
The Raincoat Man’s raspy voice echoed within the cramped elevator car.
“I deliver food to them all the time. Just this week, I’ve sent no less than four or five boxes of condoms to 802.”
I clicked my tongue, intentionally dragging out my words so that every syllable would penetrate the Old Woman’s ears with crystal clarity.
“Tsk, young people… good stamina, high libido. It’s understandable, totally understandable.”
The moment the words left my mouth,
The Old Woman’s clouded, yellowed eyes shifted with agonizing slowness away from the tall, imposing figure of the Raincoat Man.
Then, she stuck out a dark purple tongue and licked her cracked lips.
That wasn’t the gesture of an ordinary elderly person soothing dryness.
It was a near-instinctive physiological tremor, saturated with hunger.
Her hand moved. Her fingers rose slowly, pressing the button for the eighth floor with unerring precision.
Then, she tilted her head toward me, the wrinkles on her face piling up as she smiled.
“Girl, just give the things to me. I happen to be… going to 802 to see them.”
I instinctively pulled the bag back slightly and shook my head. “I can’t. We have regulations; I must hand it over to the recipient personally.”
“I’m their grandmother.” Her voice was hoarse, yet it carried an air of command that brooked no refusal. “Just give it to me. It’ll save you a trip. It’s quite a hassle, after all.”
Obvious hesitation showed on my face, and I pursed my lips.
Finally, as if conceding, my shoulders slumped, and I handed the bag over.
“Well… alright then.” I squeezed out a small smile. “Thank you, Grandma.”
“It’s nothing.”
Watching the Old Woman’s retreating back as she stepped out of the elevator, I turned my attention to the Barrage that had been scrolling continuously.
[What the hell… is the plot diverging? Why is the old hag going after the male lead?]
[Can this Old Woman actually take down that hunk?]
[Hard to say, but I want to see it!]
[It’s been so long, why hasn’t the Killer made a move yet? Who’s he going to kill first?]
[I hope he kills that creep on the fifth floor first. Being a Pediatrician and molesting little girls… he’s absolutely disgusting.]
[Relax, the Killer attacks indiscriminately. He’ll kill room by room until only one person is left in this building, then the plot ends.]
So, I am doomed to die after all.
I looked down silently, but at that moment, the elevator stopped without warning.
Looking up, I saw the back of the Raincoat Man as he walked out of the elevator.
I glanced at the floor indicator.
The second floor.
The Barrage was right. He would clear the building floor by floor until only one living person remained.
And in the original plot, the one who survived until the end was the male lead.
This meant… the Killer himself would definitely not be the survivor.
In that case… could I take a gamble?
I followed silently a short distance behind the Killer, watching as he swung his hammer and smashed open the door to 201 with a loud bang.
He walked inside and circled the place.
No one.
The empty living room held nothing but dust floating in the shafts of light.
[Which units in this building actually have people in them?]
[202 has a Chainsaw Maniac. The third and fourth floors are empty. The Pediatrician lives in 501, the Old Woman is on the sixth, the seventh is empty, and the male lead is on the eighth. That’s it.]
[That’s not many people. Isn’t the Killer’s mission going to be a breeze?]
[Heh, the person above is too naive. The fewer people there are, the scarier it is. It means none of the remaining ones are easy to mess with.]
[That move by the side character just now pitted the male lead against the Old Woman. 666!]
[Is the Old Woman dead already?]
[Not yet. The Killer hasn’t gone to the eighth floor yet, so the perspective hasn’t unlocked. But you can guess-how could that Old Woman possibly beat that hunk?]
There’s a Chainsaw Maniac in 202?
My body froze. I slowly turned my head to look at room 202, which was no more than three meters behind me.
In an instant, I felt that the kitchen knife in my hand was pathetically weak.
Just as I was wondering if I should hurry and hide,
The door to 202 opened.
