Chapter 2
Chapter 2
The killer didn’t seem to want to kill me just yet. He only followed close behind me, never leaving my side.
For a moment, I couldn’t figure out why.
But no matter what, the foundation of keeping myself alive was this: I hadn’t noticed him.
I couldn’t let him see anything unusual about me.
And even more so, I couldn’t rashly call the police.
I sat down on the sofa like usual.
Then I began eating my ice cream in huge mouthfuls.
Something that usually took me four or five minutes to finish was quickly swallowed down into my stomach.
The cold kept stabbing into my head. The spoon scraped against my teeth with a sharp sound…
I used these little movements to vent my anger and terror.
At the same time, I turned on the TV and lowered the volume to the very last bar before mute.
I wanted the killer to clearly understand that my hearing was excellent.
That way, he would pay even less attention to my sense of smell.
After confirming that he wasn’t moving, I finally began to calmly think about how to escape and call for help.
I had to come up with something as soon as possible.
Because every second that passed, he might kill me!
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
Someone was here?
No matter who it was, this was an opportunity.
I walked to the door and asked, “Who is it?”
“Xiaotao, it’s Brother Lin. Open the door.”
Although I hadn’t heard any footsteps, the killer’s scent actually faded.
The visitor had forced him to hide.
Brother Lin was my superior. He was shameless, with a wife and children, yet he still tried to seduce me.
I’d met plenty of people like that. Seeing that I was blind, they all thought I couldn’t fight back.
He often took advantage of me on purpose-touching my hair, brushing against my hand, using his fingers to lift the hem of my skirt in the break room, and even waiting downstairs at my apartment building so he could force a kiss on me in the dim elevator lobby.
That time, I slapped him across the face.
He said, “It wasn’t easy for you to get this job. Don’t be so ungrateful!”
And that morning, I had written an email detailing everything he had done to me, including screenshots of his explicit WeChat messages, warning him not to continue.
“This time, I only cc’d your supervisor. Next time, I’ll cc the entire company.”
So he had probably come today to apologize.
But right now, he had suddenly become my lifeline.
“Brother Lin!”
I opened the door and threw my arms around Brother Lin.
“I missed you so much. What took you so long?”
I had never been warm to him. I had never hugged him, much less invited him over.
Everything I was doing now was a cry for help.
He froze for a moment, then hugged me back. “Xiaotao, what’s going on with you?”
“Didn’t you say you were bringing me a gift? Where is it?” I pressed him.
“A gift?” he asked, confused.
“Yeah. It’s in your car, isn’t it? Then…”
I wanted so badly to tell him that I would go get it with him.
That way, I would have a reason to leave this apartment with him.
But that would anger the killer.
When the time came, not only would I be killed, Brother Lin would be dragged into it too.
“Hurry up and go get it. Come back once you have it!”
All I could do was make him call the police as soon as possible.
“Xiaotao…”
He still seemed to want to ask more, but the more we said, the more likely we were to slip up.
“Brother Lin!” I interrupted him, taking his hands in both of mine and shaking them back and forth. “I want your gift!”
At the same time, in his palm, I repeatedly traced three numbers:
