Chapter 120

The people restraining Song Yunqing did not move.

Qingshui frowned. With a turn of her wrist, she raised the gun whose magazine had already been removed and leveled the muzzle squarely at the Director a short distance away.

Sharp gasps filled the room.

The magazine might not have been in the gun, but no one doubted her speed. If she wanted to kill someone, it made little difference whether her gun was loaded or not.

“Hey!”

Xu Wenlie was the first to react. She had already drawn her own gun, its dark muzzle aimed at Qingshui.

The scar on her face twisted viciously as she ground out through clenched teeth, “What the fuck do you think you’re doing?!”

“Let her go.”

Qingshui repeated herself, her voice unwavering.

The Director fell silent for a moment. She glanced at Meng Rui, whose expression was impossible to read, then finally spoke in a calm, measured voice. “Let her go.”

The people holding Song Yunqing released her at once, as though they had just been granted a reprieve, and hurriedly stepped aside.

Wen Lianfeng moved. She strode forward and placed herself in front of Song Yunqing.

Chu Jingchu followed, taking up position on the other side.

Wu Wujie squeezed his massive frame in as well, completely shielding the slight figure behind him.

Three people. Three silhouettes.

Together, they blocked Song Yunqing from view.

Then everyone present heard a voice coming from behind them.

Hoarse and broken, it sent chills down their spines.

“I will kill you…”

Song Yunqing knelt on the floor, drenched in blood. Some of it belonged to others, and some of it was her own. Blood streamed down her cheek, coating half her face.

She raised her head.

Something terrifying now burned within those hollow eyes.

“I’ll kill you. I’ll kill you. I’ll kill you. I’ll kill you. I’ll kill you…”

She repeated it over and over, her voice sinking lower and growing hoarser each time, yet the hatred carved into her very bones was so intense it seemed ready to spill out of her.

Then her lips slowly stretched into a smile.

“Never, ever close your eyes. Not for a single moment.”

A woman standing behind Zhou Sufen suddenly exploded in rage.

Her face flushed crimson. Trembling with fury, she pointed at Song Yunqing and screamed, “Go ahead and kill, you fucking mongrel! You must’ve been the fastest one to run and hide! Why are your brother, your sister-in-law, and the others all dead while a bitch like you is still alive?!”

Before she could finish, Song Yunqing moved.

The woman who had been kneeling there on the verge of collapse suddenly lunged like a rabid dog. She threw herself at the woman and slammed her violently to the floor!

Then she lowered her head, opened her mouth, and sank her teeth into the woman’s neck!

“Aaaaaaah!”

The woman shrieked.

Song Yunqing’s teeth buried deep into her flesh, tearing out a chunk of bloody meat.

Blood gushed from the wound, spraying across Song Yunqing’s face, her body, and the floor. The blood-soaked lump of flesh still hung between her teeth, making her look like a true wild beast.

Everyone recoiled at the sight.

But it was not over.

No one had known she still had a small knife hidden on her.

The knife slid from her sleeve and into her hand.

Before everyone’s horrified eyes, she raised it high and plunged it viciously into the woman’s eye socket!

“Aaaaaaaaaah!”

She ripped the knife out and drove it in again.

Blood sprayed over Song Yunqing’s face, mingling with the blood already there until her deathly pale features were smeared a ghastly crimson. She looked like a vengeful spirit that had crawled straight out of hell.

The people around her backed away again and again without even realizing it.

The crowd scattered, leaving a wide-open space. At its center, only Song Yunqing and the now-motionless corpse remained.
The woman’s eye sockets had been reduced to two bloody holes.

Song Yunqing knelt astride her, trembling violently and gasping for breath. She still clutched the knife in her hand, blood dripping from its tip.

Not far away, a middle-aged man pulled a gun from beneath a blanket. He raised it and aimed at Song Yunqing’s back, his finger tightening on the trigger.

Squelch!

There was a muffled sound.

The man froze. He lowered his head as an icy chill spread across his throat. Then he toppled to the floor, sending up a cloud of dust.

Xu Wenlie stood behind him, her face expressionless as she pulled out her knife.

The Director turned her gaze toward the few remaining members of Zhou Sufen’s group. By now, they were utterly terrified.

They huddled together, faces deathly pale and lips trembling. Their eyes darted around as if searching for something, anything, to cling to.

More and more people closed in around them. Even the survivors who had hesitated earlier now stepped forward. No one spoke, but their silence was more oppressive than any words could have been.

They had probably figured it out too.

They understood what Zhou Sufen’s group had done to the girl named Song Yunqing.

This wasn’t some ordinary feud or conflict. They had committed the kind of atrocity that had destroyed an entire group.

Qingshui studied their bloodless faces, their evasive gazes, and their quivering lips.

Suddenly, she understood.

They had brutalized Song Yunqing’s companions. Or, more accurately, her family?

The survivors around them all looked grim. None of them had clean hands. Who among those who had survived this long hadn’t killed? Who hadn’t seen blood?

But what these people had done crossed certain lines they still refused to abandon.

Every gaze turned toward the Director, awaiting her decision. From within the crowd, Qi Zhi asked coldly, “Director, should we kill them?”

The Director’s expression was grim as she swept her gaze over Zhou Sufen and the others, who were shaking with fear. “Lock them up for now.”

At those words, the remaining members of Zhou Sufen’s group completely lost their composure.

“No! Director!” A middle-aged woman lunged forward and dropped to her knees, clutching the Director’s pant leg. “We’ve done so much to help everyone! You can’t do this to us! We followed the rules!”

Another man fell to his knees as well, his voice trembling. “Director, she made me do it. We were only trying to survive! I didn’t kill anyone. I didn’t kill anyone!”

Zhou Sufen struggled to her feet and staggered a couple of steps before suddenly looking toward a silent figure at the edge of the crowd.

Meng Rui.

A glimmer of hope flashed in her eyes.

“Little Sister Meng!” she cried in a shrill, frantic voice. “You said you’d protect us! You promised!”

Meng Rui frowned irritably, her gaze turning icy.

By pulling out a gun in public, Zhou Sufen had practically announced to Xu Yun, who had always been at odds with her, that she had secretly kept a firearm.

And with Wen Lianfeng’s group making it clear that they intended to protect Song Yunqing, Zhou Sufen and her people were comparatively worthless.

She might as well go with the flow and earn herself some goodwill.

“Lock them up,” Meng Rui said impatiently. “Crazy woman.”

Her last shred of hope shattered. Zhou Sufen’s face went ashen as she and the few remaining members of her group were dragged away.

Standing in a pool of blood, Qingshui stared at Song Yunqing, who sat on the ground drenched in blood and trembling faintly. For a moment, she felt dazed.

She crouched down and gently wiped the still-wet blood from Song Yunqing’s face.

Song Yunqing raised her head and looked at Qingshui. The flames in her eyes suddenly went out.

Then she burst into sobs.

She buried her face in her hands, her shoulders heaving violently. Tears seeped between her fingers, mingling with the blood before dripping onto the floor.

The Director looked at Qingshui. “Take her to the third floor. Keep her under observation for a few days.”
