Chapter 2
Chapter 2
When we got home, Chen Yu began moving his things into the study.
I stood at the door and glanced at him. “Are you going to sleep in the study?”
He smiled at me, responding naturally, “I’ll be working late recently, and I don’t want to disturb your rest.”
“Oh.” I ignored him.
He probably wanted to keep himself pure for his mistress.
I went into the master bedroom, took out the business card, and started searching online.
I had managed to get Shen Zhihan’s cell phone number earlier from the property management office at Ran Ning’s apartment complex.
That was only possible because the apartment wasn’t under Ran Ning’s name.
I wanted to know exactly what he did for a living.
To my surprise, when I typed in Shen Zhihan’s name, I found countless associated companies. There were even a few I had heard of.
He was… that rich?
No wonder he had given that helpless smirk when he heard about a seven-figure annual income.
“Honey, do you want some coffee? I brewed it myself,” Chen Yu suddenly appeared.
I immediately closed my laptop, terrified he might see the screen.
A cup of hot coffee was placed in front of me.
“I have a female student from a wealthy family,” Chen Yu said, taking my hand. “You know I’ve been busy looking for investors lately. I invited her over for dinner tonight to talk things over.”
I understood immediately. I looked up at him. “Which one?”
“Ran Ning.” When Chen Yu mentioned the name, his expression was casual, as if she meant nothing to him.
“Sure,” I said, my lips curving into a smile. “Do you want me to cook?”
“No need, I’ll do it.” Chen Yu suddenly reached out and touched my face, his eyes full of warmth. “You don’t have to do a thing.”
I locked eyes with him, feeling a momentary sense of confusion.
Perhaps Shen Zhihan and I had different tastes. In my eyes, Chen Yu wasn’t ordinary-looking. He had a refined, delicate handsomeness, was well-educated, and gentle-the kind of man often considered a ‘catch.’
If he had already had a change of heart, why was he still acting so perfectly?
At six o’clock that evening, Ran Ning arrived at my house.
Chen Yu went to the kitchen to cook, leaving me to keep Ran Ning company.
“I didn’t expect Sister Xu Ting to be so beautiful.” She took the coffee, tilting her head and smiling at me.
I maintained my smile. “Oh? Is it that much of a surprise?”
Ran Ning was silenced for a moment.
“But living like this must be exhausting, right?”
She looked away, glancing toward the kitchen where Chen Yu was. “Do you know why I came to your house for dinner?”
She turned back to meet my eyes. “Because the property management people told me that a woman has been asking about me lately.”
My heart skipped a beat.
Could it be that she already knew?
Ran Ning leaned closer to me, lowering her voice. “I’m here to warn you.”
I froze in place, my heart racing and my palms breaking into a sweat.
