Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Well, the sun really had risen in the west.
Today was the day Shi Jin and I had agreed to meet once a week.
It was not strange for him to come looking for me.
However, he often stood me up, and besides, it was already eleven at night.
I lit a cigarette and said to the person on the phone, “I don’t have time to see him today. Tell him to go back.”
Secretary Wang was silent for a moment. “That is what I told Mr. Shi as well. He insists on waiting until you finish your work to see you.”
“He is in the meeting room next door right now.”
I frowned and was about to say something when a small face leaned over and took a drag from the cigarette between my fingers.
Then he choked.
He coughed as if the world were ending.
I hung up the phone.
“Sis, stop smoking.”
Just as I thought Zhou Xi had suddenly changed tactics and was going to become a considerate confidant, I heard him add,
“Smoke cigars instead. You’d look cooler.”
Ash trembled and fell onto the marble floor tiles.
I said, “Go back first. I need to handle something.”
Zhou Xi did not ask any questions. He patted himself off and left.
Shi Jin was brought in.
Still in that same white shirt and jeans.
I was getting a little tired of looking at it.
He stood in front of me, accusation in his tone. “Cui Yuntan, I was fired.”
He seemed to think I had made the store manager fire him.
After all, that cafe was mine.
He had been earning an internship salary of fifty thousand a month there while calling it work-study.
I raised an eyebrow. “So?”
Shi Jin’s expression turned ugly.
He still stood ramrod straight, fists clenched at his sides, his tone growing sharper.
“Did someone at the store say something to you?”
“He Yueyue is only my junior schoolmate. I was only doing what a shop assistant should do. You can’t just fire me whenever you feel like it!”
“You rich people are always so high and mighty–”
I interrupted him. “Then I’ll have the cafe hire you again.”
Shi Jin’s words stopped abruptly.
He had not expected me to be so easy to talk to.
“Th-then that’s good…”
I smiled and continued, “Same as the other interns. Three thousand a month. Are you willing?”
Shi Jin stared at me with wide eyes, as if he had suffered some great insult.
He was silent for a few seconds.
“Cui Yuntan, stop messing around.”
“I told you, He Yueyue and I are not boyfriend and girlfriend!”
A trace of impatience appeared in his eyes and brows.
I looked him over and suddenly felt he seemed rather rough and dull.
His skin was not as smooth as Zhou Xi’s, his eyes not as bright, his lips not as pink, his nose bridge not as high, his legs not as long, his abs not as firm… and his technique was poor too.
Not that Zhou Xi was much better.
But at least he was willing to learn.
“He Yueyue?”
The name was quite cute.
I casually repeated it, not expecting Shi Jin to act as if facing a great enemy.
“If you have a problem, come at me! She doesn’t know anything!”
Suddenly, I found it very funny.
I deliberately asked, “What do you think I am going to do to her?”
All at once, Shi Jin’s gaze shifted somewhere else.
His expression froze in an instant, his eyes blank. He even forgot to answer me.
I followed his gaze–
On the Baolifeng sofa.
A pair of CK underwear lay there furtively, quietly listening to the entire conversation between Shi Jin and me.
