Chapter 4
Chapter 4
I looked at the girl in front of me and felt, deep in my soul, just how terrifying a love-addled brain could be.
Just then, a middle-aged man in his forties arrived at the police station as well. The moment Zhang Qianran saw him, she threw herself into his arms and burst into tears.
“Xiao Xin, what took you so long? Your brother, he… he… waaaah…”
The man was small and thin, about the same height as Song Feifei, who was around five foot seven. He had triangular brows and narrow, elongated eyes, and his whole body gave off an aura that made people deeply uncomfortable.
After standing near him for too long, I even felt a little palpitation in my chest.
Of course, the police considered the idea of talisman paper killing someone complete nonsense, but because Zhang Qianran kept making a scene, Song Feifei and I refunded her money.
The deceased was named Chen Lei. The middle-aged man who had just arrived was Chen Xin, the deceased’s younger brother.
He stayed patiently by Zhang Qianran’s side, comforting her, but his gaze kept drifting toward Song Feifei.
When he heard Zhang Qianran say that Song Feifei was the daughter of the richest man, his tiny eyes practically lit up.
“I’m sorry. My sister-in-law is only acting this way because she’s too heartbroken. My brother’s death was just an accident. I hope, for the sake of the fact that you and my sister-in-law were classmates, you won’t hold it against her.”
Chen Xin walked up to Song Feifei, first bending at the waist in a sincere apology, then suddenly grabbed Song Feifei by the wrist.
After grabbing her, he quickly let go again, his expression awkward and uneasy.
“S-Sorry. I was just trying to shake your hand.”
Song Feifei stared at him in complete confusion, but Chen Xin had already pulled Zhang Qianran away at a brisk pace.
Ling Rui walked over to my side, his expression solemn as he looked in the direction Chen Xin and Zhang Qianran had left.
“Lingzhu, I looked into the two brothers. Chen Lei had three wives die on him, and every one of them was a rich, beautiful woman from a good family.”
“As for Chen Xin, two of his wives have died too. They were also girls with especially good backgrounds.”
“Something about him just feels off to me. I’m on duty tonight. After I get off work tomorrow, I’d like to talk to you.”
I nodded. The aura around Chen Xin really was far too strange.
It wasn’t evil qi, and it wasn’t yin energy either, but I couldn’t help feeling afraid of him.
Song Feifei was still standing there in a daze, taking forever to come back to herself. I walked over and took her hand.
“All right, stop standing there like a door guardian. I’m hungry. Let’s hurry home and get some late-night snacks.”
Song Feifei shook off my hand, her smile shy and bashful.
“Lingzhu! I just fell in love at first sight!”
Huh? What? With who?
Seeing my shocked expression, Song Feifei got annoyed.
“Oh, come on, why are you playing dumb? Chen Xin, obviously! Don’t you think he looks just like Daniel Wu?”
