Chapter 1

“See? This paper crane can fly because there’s a transparent fishing line tied to its wings.”

I casually moved my hand, directing the paper crane fluttering in front of me.

I had just folded the crane out of talisman paper, and the cinnabar on it hadn’t even dried yet.

I was a Daoist priest-and also a science-debunking blogger. Every day in my livestream, I taught people not to believe in feudal superstition, but to believe in science.

At eight o’clock in the evening, the livestream gradually grew lively, with comments constantly flashing across the screen.

“Why do I feel like it’s not the line pulling the paper crane through the air, but the paper crane pulling the line?”

I froze for a second. My good friend Song Feifei-who was also my assistant, boss, and landlord-stood off to the side and rolled her eyes dramatically.

“Lingzhu, do you think everyone else is stupid? Come on, could you at least try?”

“Keep your voice down!”

I shot Song Feifei a glare, and the chat instantly got even livelier.

“Is that the rich, fair-skinned beauty assistant? Hello, big sister. I’m eighteen this year, 180 centimeters tall, and I don’t want to work hard anymore. Please take a look at me~”

As an obscure science blogger, the only reason I’d become popular was Song Feifei.

She was the daughter of the richest man in our city, and tons of people knew her online.

The moment everyone found out she was my assistant, my livestream exploded in popularity.

Everyone agreed that you could doubt a rich person’s character, but you couldn’t doubt a rich person’s taste.

That was why everything in my shop sold extremely well.

Protection talismans, love-luck talismans, all kinds of feng shui ornaments-you name it. Demand always outstripped supply.

Yesterday, I had listed a few items called Severing Bad-Karma Bond Talisman in the shop.

A fan had left a comment saying she had way too many rotten romantic entanglements and kept running into scumbags. Not only had they tricked her into bed, they’d scammed her out of money too. For a while, countless people resonated with her story.

So I made a few talismans called Severing Bad-Karma Bond Talisman.

There wasn’t actually much to these talismans. If the other party didn’t genuinely like the wearer and instead approached them with impure motives, the talisman paper would react and bring the other person bad luck.

That way, whenever a scumbag man or woman got close, they’d run into all sorts of accidents. After enough time passed, they would naturally stop harassing the person wearing the talisman paper.

This thing was not easy to make. It required casting a curse and collecting unlucky energy, so I priced each one at 6,888 yuan.

On the very day I listed them, two sold.

I glanced at my shop’s sales figures and continued my livestream in high spirits.

Casually tossing the paper crane aside, I pulled out another sheet of talisman paper.

“Grand Supreme Elder Lord, answer my command with all haste!”

At my command, the talisman paper between my fingers burst into flame.

“Everyone, the reason this talisman paper can burn is because I sprinkled phosphorus powder on it just now.”

“Phosphorus powder has a low ignition point. It can catch fire at room temperatures of ten or twenty degrees Celsius, so everyone must believe in science.”

“Feifei, bring out the phosphorus powder and show everyone.”

Song Feifei craned her neck and glared at me.

“You never told me to buy phosphorus powder! Since when do we have that stuff?!”
