Chapter 4
I froze for a second, then instinctively started forward.
But by the time I made it closer to the front, Zhao Xuwen had already been helped off the court by his teammates. A few other students took over, supporting him as they headed in one direction.
There were too many people around. Someone in front of me shoved into me-I had no idea who.
I stumbled two steps before regaining my balance. When I looked over again, Zhao Xuwen was already gone.
All I could do was stand there and call him. The phone rang for more than ten seconds before he picked up. On the other end, I could hear him hissing through his teeth in pain. “Sis?”
“Where did you go? Is it bad?”
“I’m fine. I just twisted my ankle. My classmates are taking me to the school clinic. They’ll probably just put some medicine on it and have me rest,” Zhao Xuwen said. “Are you still watching the game? If you are, help me keep an eye on the final score.”
“…”
He was injured, and he was still thinking about the score.
The game continued. After the School of Finance swapped in a substitute, their style was different from Zhao Xuwen’s, and the gap in points slowly widened.
He Lin’s advantage was too obvious.
His passes, dribbling, and shots were all sharp and clean. Beautiful, even.
After another dunk, a boy in front of me clicked his tongue. “He Lin’s playing way too flashy. What, did his crush come to watch him play?”
Someone beside him chimed in, “If you didn’t know better, you’d think this was an exhibition match.”
“…”
After Zhao Xuwen left the court, his team’s edge weakened a little. In the end, they lost by a few points.
Cheers erupted around the court.
Some people had simply come to watch a game; they would cheer no matter who won.
I saw He Lin, the focus of so many eyes, instinctively look toward the spectator stands after winning. Someone was already heading over to bring him water.
There actually wasn’t any shortage of water on the court.
Their side had whole cases of bottled mineral water.
Some players from both teams had already picked up bottles and were drinking, but He Lin walked straight in this direction.
The spectators in front of me stirred a little. Even He Lin’s teammates called out to ask where he was going.
He Lin probably answered something, but I was too far away to hear a word.
I saw the girl in the white dress in front suddenly take two steps forward and hand the bottle in her hands to He Lin.
I couldn’t see her expression, but a few excited, gossipy murmurs rose around them.
A handsome guy and a pretty girl standing together-clearly acquainted, too-made for a very pleasing sight.
He Lin seemed to say something, pointing ahead. Then the young woman named Qu Ying also turned to glance through the crowd.
Her gaze was a little lost, as though she were searching for something.
He Lin had already passed her and continued walking forward.
There was no doubt he was dazzling.
Countless gazes followed him, and after saying goodbye to my student days, I once again experienced what it felt like to be the center of attention.
It was different from being stared at during a company meeting.
He Lin had already stopped in front of me, and many eyes around us landed on me as well.
Compared with the students around me, the way I was dressed really did look a little different.
“Sis, where’s my water?” he asked, staring straight at me. Sweat beaded across his forehead and body.
The charming college boy who had been dazzling everyone on the court just moments ago had ignored the water right beside him and come all this way to ask his online girlfriend, whom he was meeting for the first time, for a drink.
