Chapter 4
Chapter 4
On the drive back, little Zhao Yue had already fallen asleep in her father’s arms.
Her cheek was squished adorably against the crook of Zhao Suiyu’s arm. When we left earlier, even the two young male models had looked back at the little girl with lingering reluctance.
Clearly, little Zhao Yue had conquered two more strangers with her cuteness.
In all the years I’d been married to Zhao Suiyu, the thing I regretted least was giving birth to our daughter.
The alcohol was starting to go to my head. I leaned a little against Zhao Suiyu’s shoulder beside me. He turned to look at me, his tone giving nothing away. “You can’t hold your liquor, but you still drank.”
“I was happy.” I rubbed my head lightly against his shoulder.
After that, Zhao Suiyu said nothing more.
When we got back to the villa, he handed our daughter to the nanny, then helped me upstairs.
Only one lamp was on. I sat on the sofa and, in the dim light, watched my husband take off his suit jacket, revealing the vest and shirt underneath.
His custom-tailored clothes outlined his figure perfectly.
I’d seen the view beneath that fabric plenty of times over the years. Back when we were newlyweds, I hadn’t even dared to look straight at him. Now it was different. We were an old married couple.
I stared openly until Zhao Suiyu noticed my gaze.
He walked over and looked down at me. “Do you want me to get you a glass of water?”
Alcohol really did make people braver, in a way.
I reached out and tugged at his tie. When our eyes met, I smiled at him.
“Zhao Suiyu, can you kneel down when you talk to me?”
After I said that, the Heir of the Zhao Family fell silent.
A few seconds later, just when I thought he was about to get angry, Zhao Suiyu lowered himself. We were almost at eye level now, but because he was kneeling with both knees apart on the floor, I had the subtle feeling of looking down at him.
Psychologically speaking, it felt amazing.
Zhao Suiyu seemed so exasperated he nearly laughed. “Su Xu, are you treating your husband like a male escort?”
I toyed with his tie and murmured, “It’s not like anyone else is here. Besides, it’s not like you don’t kneel plenty of times normally.”
The meaning of that word “kneel” was understood with ease.
Zhao Suiyu’s eyes darkened a little. He asked, “Shower?”
I met his gaze and shook my head. “I want to wash by myself.”
“Can you manage on your own?”
Who was he looking down on? I hadn’t even drunk that much.
Zhao Suiyu didn’t insist.
It was just that when I was removing my makeup and saw myself in the mirror, I felt a little reluctant to wipe it off.
People always said makeup looked its best right before you took it off.
I agreed completely.
So when Zhao Suiyu passed by, he saw me admiring myself in front of the mirror for a very long time.
“…”
By the time I finished showering and came out, Zhao Suiyu had already fallen asleep in bed.
He was lying on his side. From the look of it, he had originally intended to wait for me.
We’d only gotten back late at night, and after several days of traveling for work, he must have been exhausted.
I carefully climbed into bed without leaning against him, turned off the light, closed my eyes, and went to sleep.
Only, at some point in the night, half-asleep and unaware, we still ended up in each other’s arms.
When I woke the next day, neither of us was in our original position.
Zhao Suiyu had gotten up very early. When I woke, I saw him getting dressed in front of the full-length mirror.
“Why are you up so early?” I mumbled.
Zhao Suiyu glanced toward the bed and said, “I promised Yueyue last night that I’d take her to kindergarten.”
He was a competent father, and he always kept his word.

I had plans to go sing karaoke with my best friend that night, but my five-year-old daughter just would not go to sleep.
Left with no choice, I took her with me. Once we were in the private...
