The System’s tone grew heated. “How can you say that to me, Host?! I’m just trying to do my job! Besides, if it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t even be alive. Who rented this house for you? Who gave you the money to buy the child-”

“I can help you.”

The System went silent instantly.

I lay down on the bed, pulling An’an into my arms before continuing.

“On one condition: I want to stay in this world.”

The System weighed the pros and cons.

Finally, after half a minute, it responded: “Fine. To stay, you need to establish a connection with the Beast Clan. Tell you what, I’ll set up a beginner-level seduction mission for you. If you win over that Beastman, not only can you stay, but you’ll also get a bonus. Pretty generous of me, right?”

“Generous my ass! Do I even have a choice?”

The System acted aggrieved, let out a few whimpers, and then went quiet.

The next morning.

With high efficiency, the System transmitted the data on that canine Beastman into my mind.

It instructed: “Before you start your own mission, find any excuse to get Qi Zhiye to Jinghu Square. I’m going to arrange for him to run into the Male Lead’s new stepmother there.”

I let out a cold, angry laugh at the location.

“…Like I said before, you really are a piece of work!”

“Hey! Don’t make personal attacks on the System over work matters! I’ve reviewed the data. Since finding a woman who looks like you didn’t work, then we’ll just recreate every step the two of you took.”

Jinghu Square.

That was the place where I had first ‘accidentally’ met Qi Zhiye during my mission to seduce him.

Setting down the cup in my hand, I looked at the man sitting across from me. “I need you to run an errand for me in a bit.”

“Hmm?”

“Go to Jinghu Square and buy me…”

He looked up at me.

I continued calmly, “Buy me a cranberry cake from there.”

Qi Zhiye paused. “The desserts there aren’t good. My wife hates cranberry-flavored things the most.”

“Is that so? Well, I like them.”

“We can go together. I can take you to try some other-”

“Go by yourself.”

Qi Zhiye stared at me for a few seconds. “Fine.”

Before heading out, he gave An’an’s head a heavy rub, exchanging a mysterious look with the little cub.

I didn’t think much of it. Shortly after, I left the house to find my new target.

Since I was going after a new man, I naturally didn’t want to bring An’an along.

But he gripped my hand tightly.

“Are you leaving again?”

My chest trembled. “Again?”

“You’re Mommy, right?”

After a brief, breathless silence, I was just about to nod.

“Host, he’s just testing you! If you dare to admit it, the punishment the Male Lead receives this time won’t just be intense full-body pain!”

Gritting my teeth, I gently shook my head and leaned down to pick up An’an. “Even though you’re very cute, you can’t just go around calling people ‘Mommy.’ Your real mother would be sad if she knew.”

He stared at me for a few seconds.

He reached up and wiped the moisture from the corner of my eye.

Then, he buried his head in my shoulder and whispered, “Then let’s be best friends first.”

After saying that, he reverted to his little brat persona.

“Best friends are inseparable! No matter where you go, you have to take me with you!”

As soon as we entered the human market, I spotted my target, Fang Chao.

My gaze traveled from his gold-rimmed glasses all the way down.

Past the firm swell of his chest.

Glancing over the rounded curve of his backside.

Then circling back from his long legs to that gentle, jade-like face.

Damn.

A top-tier ‘husband-material’ handsome man.

Exactly the type of eye candy I loved most back in the modern world.

The System said gloomily, “Host, I picked him according to your preferences. Am I generous now? Alright, good luck. I’m going to monitor your husband’s side.”

My grip on An’an’s hand tightened instantly.

The System could actually be this precise.

If it found a woman who hit all of Qi Zhiye’s aesthetic buttons and had them reenact a similar plot… could that bastard resist the temptation?

Before I could think it through, An’an tugged on my hand.

I looked down.

I saw his face full of conflict as he pointed at Fang Chao.

“You like that type, don’t you?”

Before I could say a word, he seemed to reach a sudden decision. “I’ll help you. You can marry him, as long as you don’t leave.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, Qi An’an sprinted toward Fang Chao with full determination.
