Chapter 2

I looked at the dilapidated little apartment before me.

I couldn’t even bring myself to curse.

The System sounded unusually aggrieved: “I’m really out of money. As long as the place is livable, it’ll have to do.”

Behind me, Qi Zhiye’s tone was obnoxious. “Oh, so you’re not a rich lady after all? Did buying us father and son use up all your savings? Are you going to be too broke to buy any other Beastmen now?”

I ignored him.

I carried Qi An’an into the house.

Even after sitting down on the worn-out sofa, I still couldn’t bring myself to let go of him.

After I had returned to my original world, I found a job at a pet hospital. From time to time, I would hold the cats and dogs there to fill the void of my longing.

But it wasn’t the same.

This is my child.

“Do you like him that much?”

Qi Zhiye sat down beside me without any hint of politeness. Blood continued to flow, soaking into the old fabric of the sofa.

I frowned. “Go tend to your wounds.”

“I don’t know how.” After a pause, he adds, “Back when I had a wife, she always did it for me.”

Bullshit.

He never used to lose a fight. After not seeing him for a few months, not only has he become weaker, but he’s even resorted to selling his own son.

I really can’t give him a pleasant look.

“Qi Zhiye, I didn’t buy you so you could act like a pampered young master!”

The air went still for several seconds.

Just when I thought Qi Zhiye was about to lose his temper, he spoke with an unreadable tone.

“I haven’t even introduced myself. How do you know my name?”

I stiffen for a moment, then smile.

“Multiple Beast Clan malls have banned you from entering. Don’t you know how famous you are?”

On the way back, the System hadn’t stopped complaining. It went from how Qi Zhiye had lost his mind and started picking fights everywhere, to how various establishments had ignored past ties to put this crazy tiger on their blacklists.

By the end of it, the System even let out a couple of crazed laughs.

I think it’s being driven insane by Qi Zhiye.

But this husband of mine is the type who never reflects on his own actions.

Sure enough, he sneered. “That’s because they’re useless. An entry ban? How childish! I could crush their doors with a single kick.”

“You’re so powerful-so powerful that you’re covered in wounds.”

“That’s because I…”

Qi Zhiye stopped mid-sentence, then turned his head away irritably. “Where’s the first aid kit?”

“I don’t know. Find it yourself.”

Finally, I got a moment of peace.

I looked down at the fluffball in my arms. Beastmen grow fast. In just three months, An’an has grown a full size larger. I imagined his human form had grown quite a bit taller too.

He has a mischievous personality, but he’s a total mama’s boy.

In the past few years, I followed the System’s requirements. I was a spoiled wife and an extremely irresponsible mother. But if An’an ever heard a single word against me, he would pounce and bite immediately.

Qi Zhiye was even worse than An’an. The outside world said that he, an S-level beastman, lived like a dog in front of me, spending all day licking and fawning over me.

His brothers were furious at his lack of backbone. “If your wife decided to shave off all your fur one day, would you just lean in and ask her if her hand is tired?!”

Everyone thought Qi Zhiye had no principles when it came to me. But only I knew that I simply hadn’t crossed his bottom line yet.

Qi Zhiye had a displaced childhood. He was sold into the black market by his closest kin when he was very young. He survived only after walking through the gates of hell many times. Therefore, he hates betrayal above all else.

He once said on the bed, in the tone of a lover whispering sweet nothings, “Wife, if you ever fall for someone else, then neither of us should live anymore.”

And I… died on the way to meet another Beastman.

When I woke up in a hospital bed in reality, I asked the System in a daze why it hadn’t informed me of my logout time in advance.

The System stated: “This is the set storyline running its course. After you successfully pursued Qi Zhiye and gave birth to the Male Lead, you were actually supposed to log out. I already let you stay for an extra three years.”

“What happens to them… after that?”

“Afterward, Qi Zhiye will find a lot of evidence of your betrayal. He’ll lose all hope in love and start finding countless stepmothers for Qi An’an. Qi An’an will grow up amidst his father’s indifference and his stepmothers’ mistreatment, becoming a yandere and beginning his own dark, twisted storyline.”

I didn’t even have time to comment on this psychotic plot before the System vanished.

I never expected I’d have a chance to come back.

My son is still relatively normal, but my husband has become a madman who sells his own child.
