Chapter 3

I thought that was the end.

I never expected that the instant Liang Qingci breathed his last, time would rewind again.

The fourth loop began.

The Heavenly Dao was awfully fair, I had to admit. Every loop kicked me right back to the starting line. I began as a single wall, and from there, survival was entirely up to me.

Truly, thanks for nothing.

I wallowed for one second, then immediately pulled myself together.

Would a career-minded hustler like me be defeated by a mere three failures? Absolutely not!

I had to find a way to protect the fruits of my labor instead of being forced to start from scratch over and over again.

At present, I still had not figured out why the loops kept happening. I had once thought it was related to Bai Ruohuan’s death. After all, the trigger points for the first two loops had both been her death. But the third time was different-this time, it was Liang Qingci’s death.

No matter what, those two were clearly the key to breaking the game.

After weighing my options, I decided to try interfering with Bai Ruohuan’s fate first.

Liang Qingci only died for his country after the nation fell. To save him, I would first have to fish an entire country out of disaster. Too tiring, too difficult, and absolutely not worth the cost.

Like a newborn game of Snake, I nibbled my way bit by bit toward the Bai Residence. The buildings and natural scenery I passed along the way quickly became part of me.

The snake gradually grew stronger.

Amazing!

After chomping my way through the entire Bai Residence, I finally put my plan to devour the city on pause.

That year, Bai Ruohuan had just come of age, right in the bloom of youth. Most importantly, at this point, she had not yet met Liang Qingci.

I struggled to recall the feeling of growing a hand back then and controlled myself, attaching to Bai Ruohuan’s porcelain pillow.

I tried for a very long time before I finally managed to grow a mouth on the pillow.

I was thrilled.

Night fell, and Bai Ruohuan lay down in bed.

As her breathing gradually evened out, I whispered like a demon beside her ear.

“Do not go near men. Misfortune will follow!”

“Do not go near men. Misfortune will follow!”

“Do not go near men. Misfortune will follow!”

Bai Ruohuan’s eyes flew open.

She sat up in terror and looked around. “Who is there?!”

Uh. Well.

I had tried many times before and discovered that mortals could not sense spiritual bodies.

This time, I had only been attempting a bit of metaphysics, testing whether I could invade her dreams this way. I never expected it to work!

An idea came to me. “I am your Pillow Immortal. I have come to protect you.”

Bai Ruohuan stared at the porcelain pillow.

She trembled all over in fright, like a white magnolia drenched by the rain.

Oh. My heart ached for her.

I struggled to grow out of the pillow. Unfortunately, the pillow was too small and did not give me much room to work with. It took a tremendous effort before my facial features finally surfaced.

Pinch the mouth into shape, then adjust the nose! Now grow a pair of eyes… My old eyes were almond-shaped, so I should make them a little rounder, hehe.

Admittedly, the scene might have been just a tiny bit sanity-draining.

By the time I excitedly opened my mouth to speak to Bai Ruohuan again, she had already fainted.
