Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Nian Nian sent me a WeChat message saying that Ji Yunbai’s father was sick.
[Ruan He, I only found out today that Ji Yunbai’s dad isn’t her biological father. Her mom died when she was six, and she was adopted by her current dad.]
[Her family isn’t well-off. She helps out at her relative’s shop after school every day. Now that her dad suddenly fell ill, she hasn’t come to school for several days.]
I gripped my phone tightly, my gaze shifting to Xu Ge and Brother Wu, who were chatting in my room.
I hesitated, wondering whether to tell Xu Ge this news.
He’d gotten close to me just so he could learn more about Ji Yunbai, hadn’t he?
But if I told him, I’d definitely see him tense up and worry about her.
And that-
I closed my eyes gently, a bitter smile tugging at my lips.
Was the last thing I wanted to see.
Xu Ge sat backwards on the chair, arms folded on the backrest, his chin lazily resting on them.
Brother Wu sat at my desk, flipping through my Chinese exam papers page by page, reading my essay.
“Your writing’s not bad, sis. This essay looks like it was written by someone who’s read a lot of books.
‘In my restless, anxious fifteenth year, I met someone-a boy as bright as sunshine, whom I dare not forget.'”
Brother Wu casually read aloud the epigraph I’d written for an essay about youth.
My eyelids twitched heavily.
Sure enough, the next second, this brainless guy asked the question.
“Sis, you got a crush? Which sunshine-bright boy is it that you dare not forget?”
Who told you to ask that!
Bite you bite you bite you!
When Brother Wu said this, Xu Ge propped his chin on his hand with great interest, watching me.
As if he was also curious about my answer.
I smiled at Brother Wu through gritted teeth and said, “I copied the line from the internet. You know, adolescence-you always want to write something different to show off your uniqueness.”
I answered, but subconsciously glanced at the person in question’s reaction.
To my disappointment, he had no reaction at all.
His dark, bright eyes only held the amusement of a spectator.
“Alright, two pages are enough. If you keep reading, you’ll dig up all her privacy.”
Xu Ge stood up, stretching his arms lazily with a huge yawn, not particularly interested.
“It’s getting late. You should head back. Didn’t you say your mom’s been in a bad mood lately? Be careful-if you go back too late, she’ll scold you again.”
The boy’s voice was muffled by his yawn.
The hem of his shirt rode up with his movement, revealing a slim, pale waist.
Faintly visible were well-defined, beautifully shaped abs.
“Don’t look at what you shouldn’t.” Xu Ge lightly pressed my head and turned my face away. “We’re leaving. If anything comes up, call me.”
Wait!
Hold on!
Seeing them about to step out the door, I hurriedly called out.
No more agonizing over whether Xu Ge would worry or get anxious.
I had to be a proper messenger hero.
So I gritted my teeth, closed my eyes, and blurted it out.
The two stopped and turned back to look at me in unison.
“So, Ji Yunbai hasn’t come to school these past few days-her dad’s sick. Did you guys know that?”
As soon as the words left my mouth, sure enough, I saw Xu Ge’s brow slowly furrow.
