Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I couldn’t help laughing out loud.
The host gave me a knowing, auntie-like smile. “Yu Xia, what are you thinking about? You’re smiling so sweetly~”
The audience instantly started hooting and cheering.
I didn’t answer. I simply took the phone provided by the production team.
Then I dialed the number I knew by heart.
Almost the very next second,
the dial tone vanished.
Before I even had time to speak,
the voice on the other end rang out, cool and clear, yet trembling with a rare loss of composure.
“Happy New Year to you too!”
A wave of exclamations swept through the audience. Many people were so shocked they couldn’t even speak.
My manager, standing below the stage, nearly tripped on the spot.
Because how could actress Yu Xia possibly have any connection to musical genius Zhou Dushu?
They were clearly supposed to be two completely unrelated people.
So you were watching this show too, weren’t you?
My dear Zhou Dushu.
I looked straight into the camera.
Even I didn’t know whether I was hoping to meet the gaze of the person I hadn’t seen in so long.
A smile rose on my face without me realizing it. “Happy New Year, Zhou Dushu.”
I still owe you seven Happy New Years.
For the seven years I unilaterally cut you off.
I’ll say them to you slowly from now on.
All right?
For the first time, I dreamed of Zhou Dushu.
On the first night after my rebirth.
It was the year of our senior year in high school.
Zhou Dushu blocked my way in the alley on my way home.
“Ahem. Yu Xia, I want to know what colleges you applied to.”
“And what can you do if you know?” My voice was very low. My lashes lifted slightly, but my eyes were filled with exhaustion.
In the dream, I watched from a third-person perspective.
Only then did I realize that I really hadn’t been very likable back then.
Just like the me now, who found that young girl utterly exasperating too.
But why hadn’t Zhou Dushu disliked me?
“I want to be with you, go to the same university, and bring you milk.”
Back then, Zhou Dushu was very tall. I had to look up at him, but he was always spreading his legs to bring himself down to my level.
Of course, at the same time, he was also blocking my path.
I said impatiently, “So what, are you a milk wholesaler?”
A light drizzle began drifting down from the sky.
Zhou Dushu smiled.
Actually, when Zhou Dushu wasn’t smiling, he seemed rather unapproachable. But when he did smile, it melted everything around him.
Like the sun.
He turned me around and positioned me against the wall, where the eaves just happened to shield me from the raindrops.
But he stood in the rain without the slightest concern, his long arms resting calmly at my sides, letting the bean-sized drops fall onto his shoulders.
He patted my head.
“Not bad. Little Xia finally knows how to joke again.”
Then he asked, “So what did you put down? I’ll go wholesale milk at your school.”
If Zhou Dushu had a tail, he would definitely have been wagging it at me shamelessly.
You really are such a puppy.
Zhou Dushu.
Thinking about it now, Zhou Dushu had never given up on me.
