Chapter 1
Chapter 1
I had never imagined I would get another chance.
“Ms. Yu Xia, we need to run through the procedure one more time in a bit.” A staff member came over ahead of time to familiarize me with the flow of the show.
I was still a little dazed.
Forcing myself to focus, I tried hard to catch every word he said.
The information gradually became clear.
I had been reborn on New Year’s Eve, at the height of my fame.
It was now December 31, 2017.
Back then, I had become wildly popular after starring in a historical drama.
The airport had been packed so tightly that no one could get through, and the fans’ enthusiasm had reached an unprecedented high.
Invitations came pouring in nonstop, and I accepted so many endorsements my hands nearly went numb.
The restrained crying scene before my character’s death in the drama had even climbed to the top spot on every major platform.
Listen to Your Voice, a hugely popular national variety show, had also invited me to appear as a major guest for their New Year’s Eve special.
“All right, Yu Xia, we’re entering our final segment.”
I responded with a smile.
“The new year is about to begin. Yu Xia, who is the first person you want to say Happy New Year to? Call them and say it to them!”
In my previous life, who had I chosen?
It had been Chen Nuo, the male lead whose CP popularity with me was extremely high at the time.
When he answered the call, his voice still carried the husky, drowsy rasp of someone who had just woken up.
It set off a wave of screams from the audience.
This had all been arranged by the company in advance, both to keep the drama’s popularity going and to further bind the drama’s fans to us.
Within a minute of the call ending, the topic #Chen Nuo/Yu Xia# shot onto the trending searches.
But later, a small incident occurred.
A week later.
Music genius Zhou Dushu’s alt Weibo account was dug up.
His alt was full of random little thoughts, while his main account was all proper business posts, completely at odds with the cool, aloof image he had onstage.
That adorable contrast drew more and more fans to watch his alt account.
Among them, two posts from New Year’s Eve were the most thought-provoking:
2017-12-31 23:58
[Who gets to be that lucky?]
2017-12-31 23:59
[Not me, anyway.]
And that happened to be the exact time of my phone call.
People who were paying attention quickly connected the two of us.
The matter had no small impact.
Afterward, Zhou Dushu hid all of his Weibo posts.
