Chapter 1
Chapter 1
I was so terrified that I quickly squeezed my eyes shut.
My entire body was trembling.
Just then, the little girl said, “She’s asleep again.”
The middle-aged woman sighed. “Sigh! I was originally going to tell her about a chance to strike it rich. It seems she just isn’t destined for it.”
My heart skipped a beat.
I had heard stories about Ghost Bringing Wealth before.
It’s when a ghost comes to your door to give you money.
Had I just missed out on billions?
Just as that thought crossed my mind, I heard the little girl speak again.
“That bag of money under the bridge at the artificial lake… if no one takes it soon, it’s going to rot in the water.”
“Shh! Don’t talk nonsense. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have brought you here. Let’s go, let’s go, hurry up.”
Then, everything went silent.
I slowly opened my eyes.
The two ghosts had vanished.
When I woke up the next morning, my roommate, Wanting, was performing her habitual Morning Divination for the rest of us.
She told us what color clothes we should wear today and what precautions to take.
But when it was my turn, Wanting said I was facing a Bloody Disaster.
I didn’t believe her.
Wanting looked at the hexagrams again and said I would die in the water.
I panicked instantly.
I had been planning to check out the school’s artificial lake.
There was a small trestle bridge there.
The key thing was that the lake wasn’t even deep. How could someone die there?
After thinking it over, I decided to tell Wanting about what happened last night.
Wanting panicked immediately.
“Are you stupid? That’s no Ghost Bringing Wealth! Those were two Water Ghosts looking for a Substitute, and they were using that as bait for you!”
A cold sweat broke out over me instantly.
Thank goodness I had a roommate who knew her stuff.
Otherwise, I would have been a goner for sure.
Who would have thought that my other roommate, Xiao Yu, wouldn’t believe in such things?
She secretly ran off to the bridge by herself to fish for the money.
And she actually found it.
It was a rotting black plastic bag.
Inside were ten thick stacks of hundred-yuan bills.
Xiao Yu shouted that she was rich.
I was so frustrated that my chest literally ached.
I immediately questioned Wanting, “Didn’t you say the Water Ghosts were looking for a Substitute? What’s going on then?”
Wanting pursed her lips. “Just because Xiao Yu is fine doesn’t mean you would have been. Besides, Xiao Yu’s divination showed that she really did have a windfall coming her way today.”
I snapped instantly. “This was clearly my windfall! A hundred thousand yuan! The main point is, who does this money belong to?”
As soon as Xiao Yu heard about splitting the money, she got defensive.
“It belongs to me, of course! I spent the whole morning soaking in the water to find this money. How could it possibly be yours?”
“If I hadn’t told you that information, would you have been able to find it?”
“Then why didn’t you go yourself? You were just too afraid of dying!”
I was left speechless.
I then turned to question Wanting, “Tell me, what should be done about this?”
To my surprise, Wanting said, “The weakest part of your Eight Characters is your wealth luck. You don’t have an Unexpected Wealth Fate. If you had gone, you really would have died.”
I got even angrier. “If I don’t have an Unexpected Wealth Fate, why would those two ghosts try to give me money?”
Wanting replied, “They were trying to hook your soul to be their Substitute. I was saving you!”
“I didn’t need you to save me! I usually listen to your fortunes just for fun, but do you really think you’re some kind of living immortal?”
Wanting’s eyes welled up with tears, her face full of grievance.
At that moment, our roommate Shanshan spoke up, “Stop arguing. In my opinion, Xiao Yu should at least give Huang You a share. You shouldn’t be so selfish.”
Xiao Yu immediately counted out a thousand yuan and threw it at me. “You just want money, right? Here!”
Fuming, I slammed the door and stormed out.
