Chapter 5
My cohabitation with Ying Xuhui settled into a proper routine.
By day, I was a diligent male secretary hard at work. By night, he was a diligent domineering CEO hard at work on me.
Sometimes Ying Xuhui would sigh and say, “You really haven’t been with anyone else? With that body and that face, you’re exactly the type people would covet.”
I was baffled. “No. My family was poor, so I don’t think any girls would have liked me.”
Ying Xuhui froze for a second. “Girls?”
I nodded.
It was like he’d heard the word for the first time. “You’re straight?”
I thought back on the kinds of movies I’d always preferred, then nodded firmly. “I’ve always liked girls.”
Ying Xuhui lit a cigarette. For some reason, his expression looked strange, as if something was bothering him, but he had no right to get upset about it.
A long while later, when I was practically melted into the pillow and about to fall asleep, he suddenly said, “So you and I… it’s just for money?”
I thought that was a strange thing to say, and without thinking, I imitated one of his old lines. “What else would it be?”
Ying Xuhui didn’t say a word for a long time.
When I woke up, I saw the ashtray on the nightstand was full of cigarette butts.
I scratched my head and figured Ying Xuhui must have run into some trouble at work.
Then I warned myself again: stop caring about him. He and I were impossible. Don’t go humiliating yourself.
I’ve always been a stupid person, so I used the stupidest method to discipline myself.
I repeated it in my head like hypnosis: This is just work. This is just work.
While I was eating breakfast, Ying Xuhui stood by the island with a cup of coffee, watching me.
I set down my glass of milk and looked back at him in confusion. “President Ying, what’s wrong?”
Ying Xuhui suddenly walked slowly over to me. “Nothing. Keep eating.”
Puzzled, I picked up my sandwich. I had only taken one bite when I nearly choked.
I stared under the table in shock.
In an instant, my whole face flushed bright red.
I was so flustered I couldn’t speak.
Ying Xuhui held my leg, keeping me from moving.
His eyes were lifted, staring straight up at me, fixed on me from beginning to end.
He was practically, practically like an incubus.
The sandwich fell silently back onto the plate.
A few minutes later, Ying Xuhui stood up from under the table. He looked down at me with an almost triumphant air and said, “Chen Xiaoniu, all I have to do is use my mouth and I can turn you into this. Look at yourself right now, acting like some cheap gay boy. What woman would want you?”
My mind was still blank, so for a moment I didn’t process what he was saying.
Ying Xuhui wiped the milk from the corner of his mouth, sat on the table, and patted my face. “Wake up. Even if you used to be straight, you’re bent now. Stop dreaming about getting a girlfriend.”
I finally understood. I shook my head and said honestly, “President Ying, ever since I made this deal with you, I stopped thinking about finding a wife.”
A smile tugged at the corner of Ying Xuhui’s mouth, as if he was looking forward to what I would say next.
I lowered my head and said softly, “Some innocent, decent girl would feel awful ending up with someone like me, someone who sells his ass.”
Ying Xuhui’s smile vanished.
“That’s what you wanted to say?”
I said, “There’s also… I might still be a little chauvinistic, I guess. I still want that kind of life with a wife, kids, and a warm home.”
But I wouldn’t look for a woman anymore.
Ying Xuhui frowned.
I announced, “Please don’t worry. I won’t bother you. I just wanted to ask, among the people you’ve played with before… is there anyone whose conditions match mine? Would it be convenient for you to introduce me?”
Ying Xuhui blinked in disbelief.
He took a deep breath, then said softly, “I just gave you a blowjob, and now you’re asking me to introduce you to someone? Do you have any shame at all?”
The more he spoke, the angrier he got, until finally he laughed. “Chen Xiaoniu, did I murder someone in my last life? Is that why I owe you in this one?”
With a cold face, Ying Xuhui carried the plate to the sink. With a cold face, he put on his coat. With a cold face, he waited for me to get ready.
The moment I caught up to him, he immediately pushed the door open with that same cold face, walked all the way without stopping, then dropped into the front passenger seat and refused to exchange so much as a single glance with me in the back seat.
