Chapter 4

I did not seduce him.

Heaven as my witness.

When I walked into that office, I really had only wanted to ask for some work to do, to show what I was worth so Ying Xuhui wouldn’t look down on me and fire me.

But he was my boss.

Twenty thousand a month.

So I obediently shut my mouth.

And let him push me down onto the bed.

At ten o’clock that night, Ying Xuhui shook me awake and told me to eat some late-night snacks.

My head felt so limp I couldn’t lift it.

Ying Xuhui clicked his tongue impatiently, reached over, cupped the back of my head with his palm, and fed me warm water.

I looked at him through a daze.

Utterly regretting why I had gone and tested my earlier theory.

My theory had been wrong. Outrageously wrong.

When I tentatively squeezed him with my hand, Ying Xuhui did not cry from the pain, nor did he flush red with anger.

He only let out a few low hums, like an emperor flattered straight to his heart, so pleased that he bestowed rewards in his own way.

Every extra time felt like he was saying, “I am pleased. This is your reward.”

I was the one who got tortured half to death.

I gave Ying Xuhui a slightly resentful look.

He rubbed his nose, then bad-temperedly pushed all the blame onto me. “Who told you to seduce me?”

I stopped talking. He was my boss. I did not argue with my boss.

I said, “I want a smoke. Can you give me a cigarette?”

Ying Xuhui smacked the back of my head. “You’re a thirty-year-old man. Why are you smoking? Don’t you know you need to take care of yourself?”

I said, “How old are you? You were smoking just now!”

Without even blinking, Ying Xuhui said, “Twenty-four.”

I said, “Huh?”

Ying Xuhui said, “I studied abroad. The master’s programs are shorter there, so I started working early.”

He had even gone to graduate school?

I froze for a moment and even forgot to ask him for a cigarette again.

He was young, smart, beautiful, and rich.

What was he thinking, fooling around with an old man like me?

So… he was probably only playing around with me. Like someone who was used to eating lavish meals suddenly wanting to try some wild country greens.

My heart sank.

That tiny thought of crossing the line, the one that had only just sprouted in me, was snuffed out without hesitation.

Chen Xiaoniu.

He’s already been very good to you. You hit his car, and he didn’t demand compensation. He even gave you a job.

Someone that good-looking is even willing to spend money to sleep with you.

What more could you possibly want?

I took a deep breath.

I blamed every improper thought in my heart on the closed-off, traditional life I had lived for the past twenty-nine years.

Before, I used to think that in this lifetime, I would only ever sleep with my own wife.

Yes, exactly.

The reason I had developed those overstepping, more intimate thoughts toward Ying Xuhui was merely some subconscious instinct. Or maybe some strange imprinting complex that, for one brief moment, made me mistakenly think he might actually become my wife.
