Chapter 4

Su Yifang had fled long ago; she never expected Pei Lu to return early from abroad.

Even less did she expect that he was far from the “wooden husband who never cared about anything.”

In truth, I knew it too.

I knew he treated me well.

But that goodness wasn’t romantic enough, not passionate enough, not “heart-fluttering” enough-just too bland.

He was like me, the type of person with extreme self-discipline; two similar people rarely spark fireworks.

The only point of harmony was… his figure: clothes off, he had muscle and abs, rivaling top male models, and at night he was astonishingly powerful.

Even in the most intimate moments, he strictly controlled the rhythm, his self-discipline bordering on harsh, yet left me with nothing to fault.

Thinking that we’d part ways in the future, I felt an inexplicable trace of loss.

I didn’t take Su Yifang’s words to heart at all; no matter how rich someone was, could they compare to Pei Lu?

The so-called “white moonlight” Lu Yanchu she mentioned was just a suitor of mine from university.

He pursued me, I said I didn’t like him, but he told others I agreed.

He still pestered me, so I bluntly said I would only marry a rich man.

Rumors are hard to break, and somehow it spread that he was my white moonlight-ridiculous.

Yet the next day, Lu Yanchu actually contacted me.

The text was cautious and restrained: “Lanzi, it’s Lu Yanchu. Can we meet? I have something to tell you.”

Such a disgusting form of address…

I didn’t reply.

But it did stir ripples in my heart.

Not because of love, but because I felt he was like a ticking time bomb.

If handled carelessly, he could become a hidden fuse in my marriage, one day igniting and destroying my life.

I knew that the drama of unresolved old flames, once caught by the media with unfounded speculation, would be a fatal blow to me.

I’m not a lovestruck fool; I’m well aware that if I still want to keep this life, I can’t afford mistakes.

Before Pei Lu brings up divorce, I have no intention of divorcing anyway.

When I went to the meeting, Su Yifang was there too, inviting me to drink, and Lu Yanchu also only had a few glasses.

I hesitated, took a sip.

To be honest, the alcohol was too cheap, not even comparable to a random bottle from Pei Lu’s wine cellar.

After one sip, I refused more.

As expected, cheap liquor was undrinkable; just a small sip made me dizzy and blurry, seeing double of their faces.

I laid my head on the table and hazily heard them talking.

“Husband, you’re not allowed to really touch her. We agreed on just taking a photo, okay? Otherwise, I’ll get jealous, the kind you can’t soothe!”

Su Yifang’s voice, strained as if she had a cold.

Who was she calling husband? Using that disgusting voice suddenly?

“Baby, don’t worry, just a photo and a video. With this, we won’t have trouble securing the cooperation with Pei Corporation.”

Lu Yanchu?

My already groggy brain nearly crashed.

Su Yifang and Lu Yanchu?

I pressed a shortcut key on my phone. Just as Lu Yanchu’s filthy hands were about to touch me, the bodyguards Pei Lu had arranged burst in.

“Sister Lan, are you okay?”

The two before me were surrounded by other security personnel, and the restaurant was quickly brought under control.

“What are you doing? I’m Shen Tinglan’s best friend, we grew up together. What do you want?”

Su Yifang panicked.

She had visited my home a few times and seen many staff, but she didn’t know that I always had bodyguards escorting me wherever I went.

Perhaps I never imagined that my so-called best friend would plot against me with an outsider.

What was she after? I don’t understand.

If she really wanted a cooperation, she could have just asked, and I would have helped. Why go through all this trouble to frame me?
