Chapter 4
Chapter 4
The air fell silent again.
“You said your mother’s name is Jiang Yuan?” After a long pause, the man in front of me finally asked.
I nodded. “Mm!”
His gaze carefully settled on my face, as if he wanted to find another person’s shadow in it.
The next second, before anyone else could react, he scooped me up and strode forward.
Behind us came another uncle’s confused call. “CEO Qin? CEO Qin?”
I was carried into the elevator, my arms around this man’s neck-the man who was supposedly my dad.
He clearly didn’t know how to hold a child, so I had to wriggle around in his arms to adjust myself.
“What are you squirming for?” he asked.
“Daddy, you’re holding me wrong. It’s uncomfortable.”
He fell silent and let me keep wriggling.
“Okay.”
The man named Qin Yan stared at me for a moment before asking, “How old are you?”
“Daddy, I’m four this year.”
He went quiet again. After a moment, he said, “Are other four-year-olds as heavy as you?”
I got a little mad. “Mommy carries me and never says I’m heavy. I didn’t even complain that you don’t know how to hold a kid.”
The other uncle who had followed us into the elevator was silent as a mute, but his eyes looked like they had a lot to say.
When the elevator doors opened, I was carried into an office.
As we passed by, several uncles and aunties looked over in shock. I heard someone behind us whisper, “Assistant Zhou, whose child is CEO Qin carrying?”
The uncle called Assistant Zhou shook his head and said nothing.
I was set down on the couch, and the man in front of me and I stared at each other.
He brought over paper and a pen, then said to me, “Didn’t you say your mother is Jiang Yuan? Here, write her name down.”
The uncle who had followed us in finally couldn’t hold back anymore and cut in. “CEO Qin, a four-year-old might not know how to write.”
The moment he finished speaking, I picked up the pen and wrote the two characters for “Jiang Yuan” on the paper. They were a little crooked, but there was no way I would write Mommy’s name wrong.
Daddy looked at the name on the page and didn’t speak for a long time. But afterward, his gaze still fell back on my face.
“Did your mother tell you I’m your father?”
I shook my head.
He let out another cold laugh. “Then how do you know I’m your father? For all you know, you could be a child she had with another man. Otherwise, why wouldn’t she bring you to find me?”
The bullet comments appeared in front of me again:
[What a stubborn man! Bet he’s freaking out inside, though.]
[He’s this stubborn with his words? No wonder he got sentenced to a lifetime without a wife.]
[Whether he’s your dad or not, just get a paternity test. Xiao Bao, pluck a few hairs from your dad with the roots attached.]
[I’m dying-male lead is probably thinking that whether she’s biologically his or not, he’s going to claim her anyway!]
[…]
I thought about it, then raised my hand and started pulling out hair.
One hair-it hurt. Two hairs-it hurt…
Daddy grabbed my hand. “What are you doing?”
My eyes had already filled with tears from the pain. I gathered the hairs I’d pulled out and placed them in his palm.
“Daddy, go do the test. Then you’ll know whether I’m your child.”
He froze. “Who taught you that? Your mother? Where is she?”
“Mommy’s at work.”
“Do you know your mother’s phone number? Call her and have her come pick you up.” Daddy seemed oddly determined to see Mommy.
I shook my head again and looked at him disapprovingly. “I already said Mommy’s at work. Don’t disturb her while she’s working.”
“Is she really at work, or does she just not dare come see me?”
“Mommy didn’t do anything bad. Why wouldn’t she dare see you?”
Then I heard him give another cold snort.
This daddy really had a terrible temper.
