Chapter 5
Chapter 5
“What is it?” I asked curiously.
His gaze darkened slightly. “She wants to come back to life, then kill that man.”
That man deserved to die.
But maybe that wasn’t all.
I thought for a moment, puzzled. “Why wouldn’t she try to get her child back instead?”
Huaichen pointed to a detail on the mural.
“There’s a bident here. It’s the divine weapon of Hades, King of the Underworld. She wants him to go to hell after he dies.”
In ancient Greek mythology, Hades overthrew his father’s rule alongside Zeus and Poseidon, gaining dominion over the underworld and becoming its king.
His divine weapon was either a bident or a bird-headed staff.
There really was an exquisite bident on the mural.
But I still held to my own view.
“You don’t understand mothers. I’ve had plenty of problems ever since I was little, but my mom never gave up on me. Someone who would sacrifice her own organs just to take back her child must have been a very good mother.”
Huaichen’s eyes turned shadowed, and he said nothing more.
I stopped paying attention to him and went around looking for life-saving items.
This time, the life-saving item was a pair of earmuffs.
From daytime until nightfall, everyone found only ten pairs of earmuffs in total, the same number as the day before.
Lao San and the others didn’t look good. The numbers still didn’t match the number of days we needed to survive.
The atmosphere was extremely heavy. Those who had found one were naturally relieved, but those who hadn’t began to look downright hostile.
If this kept going, I had a feeling the Siren might not even get the chance to kill us before we started slaughtering each other.
Night fell quickly, and everyone returned to their rooms to rest.
The woman whose roommate had just died was pacing outside her door. When she saw me pass by, she gritted her teeth and hurried after me, lowering her voice.
“You’re Song Ye, right? I’m Zhong Wei. Tonight, could I stay in the same room as you?”
Huaichen said coldly, “I don’t agree.”
Tears welled in Zhong Wei’s eyes. She covered her face with both hands and broke down crying.
“Someone died in that room. I’m so scared.”
Huaichen remained unmoved. “I don’t sleep well in unfamiliar beds.”
Zhong Wei’s sobs stopped abruptly. She stared at Huaichen in disbelief.
She probably thought there was something wrong with this guy.
To be fair, Zhong Wei was really pretty. A beautiful girl asking for help, looking so pitiful and being so polite-any normal person should have helped her, right?
But Huaichen wasn’t normal.
No normal person would get attached to a bed after sleeping in it for only one day.
Zhong Wei seemed to realize that too. She gave up on convincing Huaichen and turned her efforts toward me instead.
“Song Ye, we’re both girls. It’s more convenient for two girls to share a room than for a man and a woman to stay together, don’t you think?”
She actually had a point.
But…
I might not be normal either.
I said seriously, “I don’t think so. You’re swapping for his bed, so you should ask him.”
Huaichen definitely wouldn’t agree.
Zhong Wei puffed up her cheeks in anger and looked like she was about to cry again.
Just then, Lao San hooked an arm around Huaichen’s neck and started cursing.
“You’re a grown man. Why are you picking on a young lady? Both girls agreed, and you’re the only one refusing. Believe me, I’ll beat you up. Come on, you’re rooming with me tonight.”
Huaichen was forcibly dragged away by the neck.
I sighed and turned into the room.
Zhong Wei followed excitedly and quickly lay down on Huaichen’s bed.
She wanted to talk to me, but I didn’t really feel like talking, so I took off my hearing aid first.
Her mouth opened and closed. Seeing that I didn’t respond, she lay back down in disappointment and soon fell asleep too.
In the middle of the night, I was startled awake again.

Horror Game: Siren’s Curse
I was dragged into a horror game instance and forced to listen to a Siren sing.
I took off my hearing aids and stared blankly at the Siren baring its fangs.
“Sorry, sorry. I may...
