Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I leaned in for a look, and my eyes went wide on the spot.
Estimated P/L for the day: over two million!
I asked Lu Lingzhu what that meant.
She said she had bought the stock the day before National Day, and it had hit limit-up as soon as the market opened today. That estimated daily P/L meant she had made more than two million today.
I sucked in a sharp breath.
“You don’t do anything at all, just leave your money in there, and it gives you two million? There are deals that good in this world?”
Lu Lingzhu let out a smug little snort.
“What do you know? The U.S. cut interest rates. That’s huge good news. China’s stock market is about to rise! This is a once-in-a-century turning point, a super invincible mega bull market. You get in now, and you can make money lying down.”
Lu Lingzhu went on and on, analyzing the international situation, and in between all that, she called herself the Maoshan Financial She-Devil. For the sake of our friendship, she said, she would recommend a few stocks to me. Once I got in, I could just lie back and win.
Staring at that whole row of bright red numbers on her phone screen, I was wildly tempted.
I had a stock account too. Lou Qianqian’s cousin worked at a securities firm, and last year, to drum up business, she had made every one of us open an account.
Back then, they gave everyone who opened an account a whole box of tissues. Not that I went for the tissues, of course. Mainly, I did it for my classmate’s sake.
I swiftly pulled out my phone and transferred all my savings-138,430 yuan in total-into my stock account. Then, following Lu Lingzhu’s instructions, I bought a stock that was about to hit limit-up.
The moment I bought in, I blinked.
Estimated P/L for the day: -6,788 yuan.
My heart trembled three times over.
“Lu Lingzhu, why are this stock’s transaction fees so expensive? They take five percent?”
“What five percent?”
Lu Lingzhu looked at the screen in confusion, then practically bounced out of her seat.
“Holy crap, why is the market diving?!”
Diving? What did that mean?
Under my murderous glare, Lu Lingzhu snatched the phone out of my hand and tossed her hair with absolute confidence.
“It doesn’t mean anything. It’s reversing to pick up passengers, got it?
“They’re deliberately washing out the market, smashing the stock price down so you get a chance to get on board. You total noob. Even if I explain it, you won’t understand.
“Relax. It’ll pull back up in a minute.”
Ten minutes later, that line really did climb back up. The daily P/L showed 216 yuan.
I was instantly delighted.
Wow. I had done absolutely nothing and made over two hundred. More than two hundred a day meant over six thousand a month. Wasn’t I going to get rich at this rate?
“Here, Lingzhu, sit down. I’ll peel you an orange.”
I eagerly pressed Lu Lingzhu back into her chair.
As she ate the orange, she told me about the game.
The first person to play this game had been Song Tianming, the cousin of her good friend Song Feifei.
After playing it, Song Tianming had gotten extremely excited. He posted the game link in their friend group, praised it to the skies, and even said the Land of Mahayana was a holy site for pilgrimage, inviting his friends to go with him.
That group was full of rich second-generation kids with nothing better to do. Bored out of their minds, they all downloaded the game.
Then, three days ago, they all disappeared together.
“Disappeared?”
I reached out and tapped the screen.
“This scene looks a lot like Black Wukong. The filming location should be Little Western Paradise in Linfen, Shanxi.
“That place has already become an internet-famous tourist spot. People line up there every day. How could anyone go missing?”
Lu Lingzhu nodded.
“That’s what’s so strange about it.”
She said that after the group of rich kids went missing, their families anxiously called the police one after another. The police found that they really had bought tickets to Little Western Paradise.
But after combing through all the surveillance footage from that day, the police found that they had never appeared inside the scenic area.
The last time several of them appeared on surveillance cameras was three nights ago, at the foot of Phoenix Mountain, where Little Western Paradise was located.
Their cars were still parked by the roadside.
Phoenix Mountain wasn’t large. The mountain was long and narrow, a lone ridge jutting up abruptly, shaped like a phoenix spreading its wings. The only attraction on the mountain was Little Western Paradise.
Over the past few days, hundreds of search-and-rescue teams had been sent to comb the mountain, but they still couldn’t find a single trace of them.
