Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Lou Qianqian and the others had already been through this twice before, so they knew better than to drag me down at a time like this. They immediately grabbed the two bridesmaids who were so scared they couldn’t move and ran after me.
There were a lot of people in the wedding tent, and even more ghosts. The ghosts didn’t dare mess with a tough nut like me, so they all scrambled to tear into the men instead.
The groomsmen were scared out of their wits too. They desperately tried to get closer to me, begging me to save them.
“Qiao Moyu, I was wrong! I’ll never do it again! Please save me, save me-”
Two groomsmen were a step too slow and were soon dragged away by the ghosts, letting out bloodcurdling screams.
The rest were scared half to death.
Jiang Qingsong was bawling so hard that snot and tears flew everywhere, every syllable of his cries twisting and warbling in terror.
“Save me-I’m Jiang Yan’s brother-in-law! Qiao Moyu, Master Qiao, for the sake of you being classmates, I really don’t want to die! Wuwuwu-help me-”
“Master Qiao, please save me! I’ll do anything you ask!”
I turned around and reached out toward him.
Jiang Qingsong was overjoyed. “Master Qiao, I knew it. I knew you wouldn’t abandon me.”
Before he could finish speaking, I smashed a handful of pistachios right into his face. Jiang Qingsong’s steps faltered, and he stumbled to the ground.
I let out a breath of relief.
“That’s it. Stay here and hold them off for us for a while.”
A heart-rending scream came from behind me. I didn’t look back. I didn’t dare. These ghosts were way too brutal.
I led the bridesmaids to Jiang Ping’s house. Hua Yuling was waiting for me at the entrance, her face full of nerves.
“Holy crap, the yin energy is so heavy I can barely breathe. How many ghosts are here?”
My expression turned grave.
“About the same as Lu Lingzhu’s college entrance exam score.”
Hua Yuling was shocked.
“What?! Then there have to be over a hundred!”
“Too terrifying. Get inside, quick.”
I stuck two evil-dispelling household protection talismans on the front door, then took Lou Qianqian and the others up to the second floor and found a room. I also used pot ash to draw a sigil on each of them to conceal their yang energy.
“This sigil works way better than just smearing on pot ash and holding rice. Everyone stay in this room. Whatever you do, don’t go out.”
As I spoke, I sat down on the bed, took out the few duck tongues I’d wrapped up at the dining table earlier, and started gnawing on them.
Lou Qianqing asked curiously, “Qiao Moyu, aren’t you going out to save the others?”
I shook my head and lifted my chin toward the window.
“See that dark cloud? That’s called a Yin Curse. The curse energy has already condensed into something tangible. Ordinary people can’t withstand it at all.”
“If anyone still dares walk around outside in this situation, they won’t even need to run into a ghost. The curse energy alone will kill them first. Even if I went out, there’d be no one left for me to save.”
“Besides, I’m scared too.”
A Night Parade of One Hundred Demons meant being trapped forever in the netherworld.
When ghostly energy grew dense enough, it could even open the gates to the Ghost Realm.
How many trump cards would it take to escape from the Ghost Realm? How much money would I have to spend?
I didn’t even dare think about it.
I might as well stay quietly holed up in this room and wait until dawn tomorrow. Ghosts didn’t like gathering together in the first place, so they would naturally disperse by then.
After hearing me say that, Lou Qianqing trembled even harder. She and Ling Ling sat on either side of me, pressing close.
I twisted away in irritation and snapped at her.
“Why don’t you just sit in my lap while you’re at it!”
Lou Qianqing’s face flushed red.
“Can I really?”
As she spoke, she tentatively placed one leg on my thigh.
Me: …
Hua Yuling was standing by the window looking outside when she suddenly lowered her voice and cried out, “Someone went out!”
I immediately lunged to the window. Through the clear glass, I did indeed see a long-haired woman pressing one hand to the hat on her head. The hem of her pink dress was blown by gusts of eerie wind until it looked like a blooming flower bud.
She reached out, opened the front gate, and staggered out in a hurry.
My expression instantly turned ugly.
“That’s Jiang Yan!”
According to the customs of Mang Village, when a bride married out, aside from bridesmaids, there also had to be a send-off girl, usually one of the bride’s sisters.
Jiang Yan’s pink dress had been chosen by a vote of everyone in our dorm. There was no way I could mistake it.
At a time like this, she still dared run outside? Did she have a death wish?!
I cursed her half to death in my head, but I couldn’t just ignore her.
All I could do was tell Huahua to keep an eye on our base camp, then steel myself and chase after her.
