Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Lou Qianqian was a rich second-generation heiress, and she had always dressed flamboyantly. The weather in Mang Village was scorching, so she wore a loose strappy dress. With her figure, the moment she stepped into Jiang Ping’s house, several men started staring at her chest.
Jiang Qingsong sneered.
“College students? College students carry designer bags? Look at what she’s wearing on her hands and around her neck. Who’s she trying to fool? Plenty of girls in college get kept by men. Jiang Yan, stop pretending. You’re no good either.”
That set everything off. Lou Qianqian had a fiery temper, and she was so furious she yanked the door open with all her strength.
“Who the fuck said I was being kept?”
The groomsmen took the chance to swarm inside. In a chaotic rush, they went to drag Jiang Ping away.
I blocked Jiang Qingsong and pointed at the flattened red envelopes on the floor, shouting, “Pick those red envelopes back up!”
Jiang Qingsong said, “Ha! At a time like this, you’re still thinking about grabbing money? Pick them up and we’ll give you a new one, how about that?”
One of the tall groomsmen burst out laughing.
“I knew it. Let me tell you the truth-every single red envelope here was prepared specially for gold diggers like you!”
“You still want to make money? Dream on!”
The groomsman pulled a thick stack of red envelopes from his jacket and hurled them at my face.
The envelopes hadn’t been sealed properly. A few paper bills fluttered out, and the words “Heaven and Earth Immortal Bank” printed on them were especially eye-catching.
My vision went dark. Fuck. So many red envelopes, and every single one of them was stuffed with spirit money. How many ghosts were they trying to summon?!
While I was stunned, Jiang Qingsong hoisted Jiang Ping over his shoulder and rushed outside.
A few groomsmen jeered, “Hey, we haven’t found the shoes yet!”
As they spoke, one of them reached out and grabbed toward Lou Qianqian’s chest.
Before his hand could touch her, a spider the size of a palm dropped from who knew where, landing right on the groomsman’s arm.
“Holy shit!”
The groomsman shrieked and immediately flung his arm. Jiang Qingsong cursed, “What’s the rush? You’ll have your fun when we haze the bridal chamber tonight.”
“Get the bride out first.”
Jiang Ping struggled on his shoulder, crying her eyes out.
“Let go of me, you bastard! I’m not marrying you anymore!”
Of course, the rest of us couldn’t just stand there and watch Jiang Ping get snatched away. We all rushed forward to stop them, but before we could even chase them out the door, Jiang Ping’s mother blocked us.
“Oh, girls, please stop making a fuss. Qingsong has always had that impulsive temper. Let me apologize to you first.”
Jiang Yan snapped angrily, “Second Aunt, his character is way too awful! He’s stingy, and his mouth is filthy. You’re still letting Ping marry someone like that?”
Jiang Ping’s mother sighed helplessly.
“What can we do? Pingping is already… ahem, already pregnant.”
Jiang Ping’s aunt came out to persuade us too, saying Jiang Qingsong and the others hadn’t targeted us for no reason. It was all a misunderstanding.
The cause was that Lou Qianqian had been outside on the phone earlier, urging her friend to ask a man for a gift. She had even said something worth tens of thousands was too cheap for him. The groomsmen had overheard it.
They had all been indignant, deciding Lou Qianqian was a gold digger too, and that was why they had acted like this.
Lou Qianqian nearly fainted from anger.
“What the hell? My mom’s birthday is coming up. I told her to ask my dad for a present. What gold digging?”
“They made up their own nonsense and that means they can insult people like this?”
Jiang Ping’s mother kept smiling apologetically.
“I know you’re a good girl. This is their fault. It’s just that my in-law is the village chief. If this really blows up, my family will be the ones to suffer in the end.”
“It’s not easy for us country folk to hold a big event like this. Girls, please put up with a little grievance and help my Pingping, all right? I’m begging you.”
Jiang Ping’s mother looked so honest and simple. Since she had already said as much, we couldn’t very well go and snatch Jiang Ping back, ruining someone else’s wedding.
Even Lou Qianqian, who had the worst temper of all, forced herself to endure it and cooperate with the wedding process.
Unexpectedly, the other side only got worse.
After the bride and groom exchanged rings, according to the original schedule, the bridesmaids had nothing left to do. I was preparing to leave the stage and hurry back to Jiang Ping’s house to set up a Yang Protection Array.
Tonight, a hundred ghosts would attend the banquet. I couldn’t just watch an entire village die. Jiang Ping’s relatives were mostly decent people, and I had to protect them.
But several groomsmen stopped me on the stage.
“Hey, wait. You can’t leave. The wedding isn’t over yet.”
