Chapter 4

After letting my imagination run wild, the way I looked at Jiang Li went from friendly to resentful.

“If you don’t like her, then don’t string her along. I’ll help you turn her down tactfully.”

Half believing me and half doubting me, he handed over his phone.

I quickly typed a few words.

Jiang Li: “Have you eaten?”

Her: “Not yet. Why, are you asking me out?”

Good. She hadn’t eaten.

Jiang Li: “Then hurry up and eat.”

Jiang Li: “That’s an order.”

I casually sent a panda-head meme along with it.

Domineering, yet not without a touch of cheapness.

If that girl still liked Jiang Li after this, I suggested she go take an advanced course from one of those hopeless-romantic relationship bloggers.

Sure enough, the girl stopped replying.

Got the ick, didn’t she?

Jiang Li took his phone back, glanced at the chat history, and let out an exasperated laugh.

“This is your method?”

“Yep. Got a problem with it?”

“I do. This city is only so big. I still need to maintain my reputation.”

Then I watched him rapidly type out a line.

Jiang Li: “Sorry, my girlfriend was messing around just now.”

Girlfriend?

Me: reputation, murdered.

After leaving Jiang Li’s place, I went to my shop.

I owned a dessert shop in the city.

It wasn’t very big, but the rent was still pretty high.

Back in college, I’d started learning how to make cakes, but I was afraid of getting fat.

So I could only use Jiang Li as my test subject. He resigned himself to fate and let me feed him cake.

Until…

His eight-pack turned into one solid slab.

After that, he never ate my cakes again.

But by then, my skills had already gotten really good.

After graduation, I got my parents to invest some startup money.

Add in marketing, renovations, and all that…

It cost quite a bit, so I was basically broke.

I’d been relying on Jiang Li to support me all this time.

Fortunately, Jiang Li’s company had also started to take shape, so he wasn’t short on money either.

With a ding, a customer entered the shop.

It was a guy.

He had peach-blossom eyes, a sharp jawline, a straight nose, and a soft, boyish look. His skin was nice too.

He’d been coming in a lot recently, and his favorite was a slice of vanilla lemon cake.

The employee I’d hired tugged on my sleeve.

She kept giving me meaningful looks.

I could understand them just fine.

“Sis, that guy is here again.”

I answered her with a few looks of my own.

“He really is handsome.”

“Right? Are you going for it or not?”

“I’m old. I’m not going for it.”

“Then I will.”

This girl was called Xiao Mei. She was a sophomore in college, and today, she had spotted a handsome guy.

But the handsome guy came straight to me.

“Miss, I’d like a slice of vanilla lemon cake.”

I was taken aback. “Sure.”

Then I told Xiao Mei to box up the cake and hand it to him.

The boy’s smile was brilliant as he said to me, “Miss, can we be friends?”

Xiao Mei shot me a look. “Go for it! He’s such a major hottie.”

I pressed my lips together and, with shy delight, added his contact.

His profile picture was a figure seen from behind, standing by a cliff overlooking the sea.

It had the colors of dusk.

His nickname was a single period.

.: “Miss, my name is Song Chiyu.”
