Chapter 2
Chapter 2
The wedding.
I arrived fashionably late.
The ceremony was already almost over.
My best friend Xu Jia asked me, “Why are you only just getting here? And what happened to your hair?”
I tossed my hair, looking carefree with a hint of having seen through life and death. “I went to Shigejie Commune and had Hu Delu give me the latest trendy hairstyle.”
Yeah, right.
I had gone to a roadside barbershop, originally intending to get bangs.
The barber took advantage of me falling asleep and chopped off my beautiful locks.
Which was how I ended up arriving with a bird’s nest on my head.
Jiang Li walked over in a suit.
He patted my head and said to Xu Jia, “Your little sister’s already this grown up?”
I shook off his hand and snapped, “You’re the little sister.”
Jiang Li clicked his tongue. “Who cut your hair like this? I’ll go find him.”
The panic in his voice was absolutely genuine.
“Forget it. He compensated me five hundred yuan. I’ll transfer it to you later.”
Honestly, after graduation, I was broke as hell.
Even the red envelope for the wedding gift money had been swiped from Jiang Li.
Xu Jia leaned over and showed me the video of Lin Xunche kissing the bride earlier.
I watched while inhaling shrimp.
Lin Xunche was so handsome.
Zhou Mian was so beautiful.
I was truly shameless, so I watched it twice.
At midnight.
After the wedding ended, I went out drinking with Xu Jia.
To celebrate my twenty-one years of being single.
There was also one secret I hadn’t told them.
Today, while riding a shared bike, I fell right in front of a blind fortune-teller.
He said my face showed no luck in romance, and I wouldn’t find a boyfriend until I was at least thirty. If I wanted to change my luck, I could go get a new hairstyle, and only then would my romantic prospects have the tiniest chance of survival.
Thirty. By then, I’d already be a rich lady.
Of course I’d have a boyfriend.
But I got scared anyway, which was why I went to cut my hair.
Only later did I think about it-what kind of charlatan sets up a fortune-telling stall outside a barbershop?
I staggered up to Jiang Li’s door.
Bang, bang, bang.
There was noise from inside.
Jiang Li opened the door. “Cheng Cha? What are you doing here so late?”
The alcohol had gone straight to my head.
I rushed forward, jumped, and hung off him.
I pinched his thin lips.
Soft and cool.
“Your mouth really is sealed tight. I told you so many secrets, and you didn’t leak a single one. You’ve ruined me!”
I wouldn’t be able to date until I was thirty!
Jiang Li clicked his tongue.
“If you dare tell me you like someone again, I’ll beat you up, you hear me?”
Maybe it was my final burst of strength before death, but I slammed my head into his.
The last thing I remembered was that I seemed to have gotten a bite of tofu.
Soft and cool.
