Chapter 5
It was two days later when Jiang Heng found me in Wen City.
I had just come back from buying groceries.
He looked a little haggard, but his eyes lit up when he saw me.
“Yaoyao, I’ve finally found you!”
I took a step back, my gaze going to the number above his head.
60%.
I gave a derisive laugh.
Apparently, he and Xia Qiu had been getting along very well these past few days.
“Yaoyao, there really is nothing between Xia Qiu and me.”
“She just works for me.”
“I only wanted to help her!”
“Jiang Heng, if I’m not mistaken, Lin Mo’s wedding leave ended a couple of days ago. She’s back at work, isn’t she?”
“Xia Qiu’s her assistant. Why didn’t she ask Lin Mo for help finding an apartment? Why did it have to be you?”
Caught out, Jiang Heng turned his face away guiltily.
“She… maybe she feels safer with a man!”
I was so angry I laughed.
“Fine. Go on making her feel safe, then!”
“Yaoyao! Will you stop being so unreasonable?”
“I’ve rented the place for her. I won’t get involved in her affairs again. I swear!”
“Come home with me. How does it look, you staying at your friend’s place all this time?”
“And Xiaoxiao still has school!”
He looked at me as though I were a little girl throwing a tantrum.
I stared at him. “Jiang Heng, I left the divorce agreement on the coffee table. I’ve signed it. All you have to do is sign, and we can get our divorce certificates in a month.”
“As for staying with Qiao Wan, she’s happy to have me. It’s none of your business.”
The color slowly drained from Jiang Heng’s face.
The number above his head began to fluctuate again.
Miraculously, it actually rose.
To 63%.
“You want a divorce just because I helped an employee rent an apartment?”
“Song Qingyao, when did you become so impossible?”
“You never acted like this when I helped Lin Mo!”
“You’re just prejudiced against Xia Qiu!”
“She’s a young woman fresh out of college. When something like this happens and she comes to me, am I supposed to stand by and do nothing?”
“All those women at the company she could ask, and she chooses you.”
“I find that pretty remarkable too.”
At the sarcasm in my voice,
Jiang Heng finally lost patience.
“Then what exactly do you want?”
“Will you only be happy if I fire her?”
“Song Qingyao, she’s a young woman trying to get by. She finally found a job, and now, because of your prejudice, she’s going to lose it…”
“Jiang Heng, haven’t you noticed?”
“Ever since you found me, you’ve done nothing but defend Xia Qiu.”
“Every other word out of your mouth is how young she is, how she’s just graduated, how hard she has it.”
“You call me unreasonable, say I have no sympathy, say I’m prejudiced.”
“If I’m so awful, sign the papers!”
With his feelings exposed, Jiang Heng’s face went red, then white.
It was quite a sight.
Ignoring him, I went straight into the residential complex.
Without an access card, he could only watch me disappear into the entrance.
