Chapter 5

In the middle of the night, I was half asleep and half awake.

Through the haze, I seemed to feel someone rubbing my face, and there were muffled grunts in my ear.

I cracked one eye open and saw a long, slender hand braced beside my pillow.

Following the hand upward, I actually saw Cheng Yi’s face!

Pervert!

I jolted awake instantly.

What was he doing sneaking into my room in the middle of the night?

The moment I looked like I was about to yell, Cheng Yi quickly reached out and covered my mouth.

“Shh!”

With his other hand, he felt around for the bedside lamp and flipped the switch.

The room burst into light, and everything came into focus.

Cheng Yi was very close. His bangs were backlit, his eyes were pitch-black, and his lashes were thick.

Tch!

No matter how handsome he was, it didn’t change the fact that he was acting like a creep for coming into my room in the middle of the night!

But the strength gap was too obvious. He had me pinned so I couldn’t move.

So I stuck out my tongue and licked his palm.

He really did flinch, loosening his grip.

Seizing the opening, I bit down hard on the web between his thumb and index finger.

But he didn’t react at all. His pain tolerance was ridiculously good.

He even explained in a calm voice, “I came to look for Jiang Jiang.”

Sneaking into my room at night to steal the cat?

Even less forgivable!

I lifted my leg, ready to kick him.

The next second, Cheng Yi gently lifted my head and pulled Jiang Jiang’s tail out from under the pillow.

Youth really was something else.

Jiang Jiang had slept with his tail pressed under my pillow all night, and after all that commotion, he still hadn’t woken up at all.

He rolled over once and kept sleeping soundly.

What a tough little guy.

Cheng Yi wasn’t nearly that tough.

That area was too sensitive. Pain from being pressed on got magnified a hundredfold.

Cheng Yi had woken up in the middle of the night in pain and climbed up to message me.

After hearing his explanation, I half-believed him and half-doubted it as I picked up my phone.

Sure enough, there were nothing but texts from him sent after midnight.

[“Lin Yuqiao, are you asleep?”]

[“It’s nothing important.”]

[“Can you check what Jiang Jiang is doing right now?”]

[“Is Jiang Jiang’s tail stuck somewhere?”]

[“It’s very important… I’m almost done for!”]

[“Lin Yuqiao, I’m begging you, please answer me.”]

[“Voice call”]

[“Video call”]

I hadn’t heard a thing.

The last message on my phone was sent by Cheng Yi ten minutes ago.

[“Sorry, I need to come to your room and check on Jiang Jiang.”]

Once I figured out what had really happened, I felt a little guilty.

I quickly used the sleeve of my pajamas to wipe the drool off his hand.

Cheng Yi’s gaze lowered slightly, and he let out a long breath.

I figured he must have been incredibly speechless, suffering ever since the moment he saw me during the day.

Afraid of making too much noise and waking my parents, I apologized to him in a whisper.

“I’m sorry. Jiang Jiang and I will make it up to you.”

Cheng Yi leaned closer, the fabric of his clothes brushing softly against the sheets.

In my ear, he proposed a compensation plan.

His low, magnetic voice made my toes curl without me even realizing it.

“Move in with me.”

“Huh?”

When my voice got louder, he expertly covered my mouth again.

“I have a place across from D University. When school starts, bring Jiang Jiang over and move in with me.”

“That way, you won’t have to be separated from Jiang Jiang.”

“And I can check on Jiang Jiang’s tail anytime.”

When he put it like that, moving in with Cheng Yi didn’t seem impossible.

On one hand, if I left Jiang Jiang at home and he bumped or hurt his tail like tonight, that would be an uncontrollable risk for Cheng Yi;

On the other hand, I really didn’t want to be separated from Jiang Jiang.

I had already asked my roommates in the dorm group chat whether I could bring Jiang Jiang with me when school started.

But one of them said she was allergic to cat hair, so it really wasn’t possible.

If Cheng Yi just happened to have a place off campus, then the problem would be solved.
