Chapter 2

After hanging up, Cheng Yi texted me asking for my home address.

He asked if it would be convenient for Jiang Jiang to meet him.

I immediately got suspicious.

Ever since I was little, I had been way too pretty.

My mom was always worried I would run into bad people.

She kept showing me all kinds of news about social scams.

My dad worried I would run into some dyed-blonde punk.

Every day, he would play me “The 108 Types of Men You Absolutely Cannot Date.”

On top of that, I loved reading suspense, thriller, and detective novels.

With all those buffs stacked on top of each other, my caution had gone a little too far.

On the surface, I looked cold and distant, but in reality I was just hypervigilant and intent on staying alive.

At that moment, countless possibilities flashed through my mind, each one pointing to him being a scammer.

Maybe some scammer had secretly added me, then quietly lurked in my Moments. After learning that I was a student at D University, he deliberately used AI to generate the face of the school heartthrob Cheng Yi and made up this outrageous excuse just to trick me into giving him my home address.

Next thing I knew, I would be drugged and have my kidneys stolen!

By the time I worked that all out, it was broad daylight, and I had successfully scared myself into a cold sweat.

But reason told me the odds of that were pretty slim.

I immediately checked the mutual group chats with this account and found that we were both in several big D University club chats and elective course groups.

His group nickname was always listed as: Econ & Management, Class XX – Cheng Yi.

It was probably Cheng Yi’s actual QQ account.

No, wait. Taking a step back, what if his account had been stolen?

In the end, to protect my privacy,
I sent him the address of a park near our neighborhood.

He replied very quickly.

[I can make it there today. I’ll text you when I arrive.]

[Lin Yuqiao, I know this is ridiculous. Believe me or not, please, I’m begging you. Make sure Jiang Jiang’s tail is safe until I get there.]

I sent back an OK.

Then I thought, what could possibly happen to Jiang Jiang’s tail?

I looked down and saw Jiang Jiang happily chasing his own tail across the floor, trying to bite it!

Oh my god. If that was really the problem, how was Cheng Yi supposed to survive it?

I reacted fast, scooped him up, and stuffed him into the cat carrier.

Jiang Jiang did not understand what he had done wrong and let out miserable little cries from inside the carrier.

I sighed.

Sorry, Jiang Jiang.

It really was Cheng Yi himself.

In the park, I sat on a stone bench and looked up as Cheng Yi ran toward me.

A simple black sleeveless T-shirt paired with gray pants.

Wolf cut, black sweatband.

He came running toward me against the fiery sunset clouds.

For a moment, I felt like I was in an anime.

He stopped beside me and actually blocked the sunlight.

Now I was certain he was Cheng Yi himself, the 188 cm-tall hockey player.

Sitting down made me look way too short.

So I stood up.

That height difference: 166 versus 188.

I looked like the stick he could use to play hockey with.

I sat back down.

My eye level landed right below his waist.

Gray pants did not lie.

Ahem. I turned my head away and put on my cold, distant, deadpan face.

“I brought Jiang Jiang. Take a good look and make sure.”

“Huh?” Cheng Yi blinked for two seconds.

“Oh.” He caught on and sat down on the stone bench beside me.

His long fingers hooked around the cat carrier.

Jiang Jiang smelled a stranger and immediately bared his teeth and hissed at him from inside the carrier.

Good. Jiang Jiang’s guard was on par with mine.

I took the carrier back.

My hand accidentally brushed against Cheng Yi’s knuckles.

He visibly stiffened.

The moment Jiang Jiang was back in my arms, he turned back into a little chatterbox, meowing pitifully.

“Jiang Jiang is afraid of you, so let me try.”

Cheng Yi nodded.

My gaze dropped to below his waist.

He was tall and broad. Sitting on that narrow stone bench, his long legs were bent and pressed together under the stone table, awkward and cramped.

“Spread your legs.”

I ordered it expressionlessly.

Honestly, I was thrilled. Family, who gets it?

It felt like I was taming a lion that could swat me flat in one slap.

Cheng Yi looked me over and leaned a little closer.

In the distance, old men were out for a walk, young people were walking dogs, and children were laughing as they played with a ball.

Cheng Yi’s deep, mellow voice slid into my ear.

“Take off your clothes.”

“Huh?” This time it was my turn to freeze.

Cheng Yi deliberately lowered his voice.

“Take off your jacket. Help me block it.”

I came to my senses.

The park was full of people, after all.

There was no way he could just do that in broad daylight.

I took off the hoodie I was wearing and handed it to him, leaving only a white T-shirt on my upper body.

Even though it was the middle of summer, my upper body tended to shake when I walked, so I usually wore a jacket when I went out to cover up a little.

The moment I took it off, the curves of my figure were exposed in full.

Cheng Yi took the hoodie and quickly looked away.

He draped my sweatshirt over the stone table.

The hem hung down, perfectly blocking the view from outside.

Only from the vertical angle between the two of us could the change be seen.

Cheng Yi kept a straight face, still wearing that cocky, battle-hardened bad-boy expression.

But the tight lines in his arms, along with ears that were already red all the way through, gave away how nervous he was.

Interesting man.

Seeing the other person nervous, I suddenly felt a lot less nervous myself.
