I searched the hotel from top to bottom.
I even checked the restrooms.
Li Jiahao had vanished into thin air. There wasn’t a trace of him.
The wedding had already begun. The emcee was onstage, shouting himself hoarse to warm up the crowd, while the music pounded so loudly my temples throbbed.
After coming up empty, I had no choice but to return to my seat for now.
I hadn’t even touched the chair before my mother-in-law beside me let out a cold snort.
“Nowhere to be found when there’s work to do, but the first in line when it’s time to eat.”
Her finger nearly jabbed me in the nose.
“My son must have been blind to fall for you! You’ve been married into this family for years and still haven’t given us a boy. How do you even have the nerve to sit here and eat?”
She deliberately raised her voice so the surrounding tables could hear.
“Not like Jiayi. She’s obedient and capable. I even had someone check for me-she’s carrying a boy!”

I took out my phone and dialed the number I’d saved last night.

The instant the call connected, a phone rang inside my mother-in-law’s bag.
My hand trembled, and I hung up on the spot.
My mother-in-law pulled out the phone and frowned as she tapped through it.
“Strange. Who was that? Calling and then hanging up.”
I stared at the phone in her hand, my throat tight, and forced my voice to sound normal.
“Mom… whose phone is that?”
“Jiayi’s. It’s inconvenient for her to carry it in a wedding dress, so she asked me to hold it for her. Why?”
My mind exploded with a boom.
