Chapter 4

I scrambled to my feet.

Yun Shen stood behind me, his expression indifferent, hands clasped behind his back.

Chen Heng picked up a test tube from the rack. “Is this the Passion Powder I asked you to develop?”

Not quite understanding his intent, I nodded.

Chen Heng looked at me and, without a word, drank it straight from the tube.

“Senior Brother, I haven’t even done anything yet. Don’t be impulsive! Are you going to be okay?”

After all, the textbooks said that the medicinal properties of Passion Powder were quite potent.

Chen Heng looked down at me and lightly clicked his tongue.

I backed away until I bumped into Yun Shen’s chest.

“Senior Brother, you didn’t actually get hit by the effects, did you?”

Chen Heng placed the test tube back into my hand.

“Junior Sister, if you can’t graduate in the future, you could always open a milk tea shop.”

I had thought the recipe for Passion Powder was too outdated, so I had added a tea base to it.

Well, it looked like I had failed.

Citing my violation of regulations, Chen Heng insisted on taking me away immediately.

Yun Shen shielded me, faintly confronting him.

“What, the Joyful Union Sect doesn’t allow dating?”

Only then did Chen Heng lift his gaze to look at him, his voice devoid of emotion.

“Fellow Daoist Yun Shen, perhaps it is the Heartless Path that strictly forbids dating?”

No one understood the graduation requirements of the Heartless Path better than the Joyful Union Sect.

Suddenly, my wrist was gripped tightly.

“I am willing to delay my graduation for Senior Sister.”

Yun Shen looked down at me, one eyebrow slightly raised.

I stared at his face, momentarily dazed.

As expected, the Heartless Path really specialized in producing ‘love-brains.’

It seemed there was a qualitative difference between first and second place.

No wonder I was the only one who graduated.

Chen Heng sighed, one hand supporting his forehead while the other pointed at the wall.

“You two violated the laboratory regulations.”

I followed his gesture-

[No ML].

I had practiced the Heartless Path for so long and had been to the lab hundreds of times.

How had I never noticed this?

“But, Senior Brother, why would the lab ban milliliters?”

And if they used liters for everything, wouldn’t that seriously affect the research?

Chen Heng was speechless.

I leaned toward Yun Shen. “What do you think?”

Yun Shen shrugged helplessly. “I can’t see it.”

Chen Heng said this was something only disciples of the Joyful Union Sect could see.

Because students from other majors wouldn’t just… do it anywhere.

Ahem.

“If Little Junior Sister had been paying attention, you’d see this sign in the cafeteria, the library, the lab, the solitary confinement room… even the Principal’s office.”

“Senior Brother, I get the logic, but how did anyone manage to sneak into the Principal’s office?”

Chen Heng looked as if he were recalling a tragic past.

He shook his head and sighed.

“Don’t ask. Those are all paths trodden by our predecessors.”

Yun Shen and I exchanged suspicious glances, falling into deep thought.

Chen Heng said that since it was my first offense, he would just give me a yellow card.

I hadn’t expected him to be in charge of the Joyful Union Sect’s disciplinary issues.

Even more unexpected was that the Joyful Union Sect actually cared about discipline and conduct.

As representatives of the Heartless Path, Yun Shen and I fell into a complete silence.

Chen Heng took the opportunity to pull me away.

“It seems Junior Sister still needs to brush up on her knowledge.”

Realizing too late, Yun Shen chased us into the hallway.

Ignoring Chen Heng’s presence, he pulled me into his arms and looked down at me.

“Senior Sister, then our relationship…”

Chen Heng leaned against the hallway wall with his arms crossed, pointing at a safety sign.

I hadn’t noticed before, but milliliters were banned everywhere in the school.

I could only politely decline Yun Shen:

“Our relationship… it hasn’t happened yet. Until we meet again.”

Chen Heng took me back to the Joyful Union Sect.

On the way, he asked me:

“You can’t even understand the signs. Doesn’t the Heartless Path teach English?”

I was silent for a long time. “Senior Brother, that’s not English at all.”

That was a damn literal translation from Chinese to English, plus an acronym!

Chen Heng, however, was dismissive.

“Little Junior Sister, this kind of alphabetic language is a compulsory course in the Joyful Union Sect.”

According to Chen Heng, the Joyful Union Sect wasn’t a lawless land either.

In order to engage in open communication and research like other disciplines, various alphabetic languages had been derived.

I could completely understand.

In fact, every academic major had its own scholarly language.

For example, in our Heartless Path, everyone loved reciting poetry.

Things like, ‘One sword’s frost chills fourteen provinces,’ ‘One sword bears the weight of a mad reputation,’ or ‘One sword makes gods and ghosts tremble.’

Chen Heng’s evaluation of this was that the Heartless Path was truly too fond of posturing.

“That’s not it, Senior Brother Chen. Think about it. When it’s time for a fight to the death, I descend from the heavens…”

The wind and clouds shifted abruptly.

I closed my eyes to focus my thoughts, my robes fluttering as I held my long sword.

“This strike is called: ‘A Study on the Resonance Between the Sword-Heart and Heavenly Thunder in a One-vs-Many Model Environment Without Considering Gravity.’ Step one: Modeling…”

I opened my eyes, dispersed my sword intent, and returned to a state of calm.

I blinked at him. “By the time I finish saying that, I’d have been beaten to death long ago.”

Chen Heng understood immediately.

“Then what does a powerhouse like you usually say?”

I looked back at him and gave a bashful smile.

“Leo, show Master Chen the sword~”

In an instant, the mountain colors dimmed and the rivers surged violently.

Chen Heng: “…”
