Chapter 2

One night a week ago, Jiang Huaizhou messaged me and told me to bring him some hangover soup.

It wasn’t that he necessarily wanted the soup. He just wanted to mess with me.

I dissolved some salt in plain boiled water, packed it up, and brought it to him.

At the bar.

Jiang Huaizhou had a pretty little beauty tucked in his arms and was feeding her drinks.

When his friends saw me, they all started teasing.

“Zhou, she actually came to deliver it?”

“She’s always obedient. Comes whenever she’s called.” Jiang Huaizhou chuckled.

Then he glanced at me, his meaning clear. “Just like a dog.”

The woman in his arms gave me a look, then indifferently looked away.

The fact that Jiang Huaizhou hated me was no secret in our circle.

As Mrs. Jiang, I really didn’t carry much weight. There was no need to care about me.

I said nothing and gently set the thermos on the table.

Jiang Huaizhou opened it, carefully blew on it, and pushed it in front of the woman beside him.

“Didn’t you say you were dizzy? Drink up.”

The woman said in a coy voice, “It’s all your fault. You kept making me drink.”

She took a small sip.

I closed my eyes. I couldn’t bear to watch.

“Ah!”

“It’s so salty! What is this?”

Of course it was salty. I had put in plenty of salt.

“Chen Yin, you did that on purpose!” Jiang Huaizhou snapped.

In the past, whenever I brought him soup, he threw it straight into the trash.

Who could have guessed that this time, he would give it to someone else?

“Huaizhou, look at her. If she didn’t want to bring it, she could’ve just refused. Why play these petty little tricks?” the woman whined to him, sounding wronged.

My gaze drifted to the fruit knife on the table.

Sometimes, I really did want to die.

But dying alone felt a little unfair. I wanted someone to go with me.

I shifted my gaze to Jiang Huaizhou.

His neck, heart, chest, stomach…

I didn’t dare.

I admit it. I was a coward.

To stand up for the woman beside him, Jiang Huaizhou pointed at the bowl of hangover soup and ordered, “Drink it.”

Timidly, I picked up the thermos and drank it all without even frowning.

I couldn’t taste anything.

I had forgotten when I lost my sense of taste. Probably not long after I married Jiang Huaizhou.

The doctors couldn’t find a cause and could only attribute it to psychological factors.

When the people around us saw how meek I was, not even daring to breathe too loudly, their heckling grew even louder.

“She really drank it. Is she always this obedient?”

Jiang Huaizhou coaxed the woman beside him. “Satisfied now?”

“Hmph. I won’t stoop to her level.”

After leaving the bar, I walked down the street, letting the wind blow against me.

Then I abruptly spat out a mouthful of water.

The salt water burned my stomach. My vision went black, and I lost consciousness.

When I woke up, I discovered that someone had brought me to the hospital.

“Miss Chen, are you feeling unwell anywhere?” a man’s voice sounded beside me.

That was the first time I met Lin Qi.

“Thank you,” I said gratefully.

Lin Qi didn’t think it was any trouble. Instead, he stayed with me until my IV was finished.

His gaze swept over the bruises on my arm, and his brows knitted tightly.

“Miss Chen, would you be willing to hire me as your bodyguard?”

“I can protect you. I absolutely won’t let anyone hurt you.”

I tugged at my sleeve to cover myself.

“No one dares offend that person.”

It wasn’t that I had never hired bodyguards before, but none of them dared offend Jiang Huaizhou.

Lin Qi’s expression was grave and serious. “I’m not afraid of him.”

I gave a bitter smile. “Do you know who he is?”

“No one is allowed to hurt you.”

“What if he’s my husband?” I asked again.

Domestic matters were very difficult to handle.

Lin Qi emphasized, “I said no one.”

In the end, I still hired Lin Qi.

I didn’t expect him to be able to deal with Jiang Huaizhou.

But at the very least, when I was about to die, yet didn’t quite want to die…

There would be someone who could send me to the hospital, just like today.

Even if I died one day, I wouldn’t rot away at home without anyone knowing.
